I would see the doctor soon, it sounds like it could be herpes sores. They look almost identical, but much more frequent.

If these are true "canker sores" then they could be caused from a few things.
1. allergies. foods with a high acid content have been known to cause canker sores. oranges, tomatoes etc
Also...allergic to Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) ...which is most toothpastes. Change tooth pastes.. try Rembrandt with no SLS -- some people have good luck with Mentadent and Tom's. However Tom's contain SLS, the patients seem to tolerate it better.
2. Trauma, sometimes if you hit yourself with the plastic end of the toothbrush etc, it can cause a canker sore.
If you evaluate your diet, rule out trauma and change your toothpaste and if you still have canker sores, please go to your dentist. These may not be canker sores and you are mis-diagnosing yourself and it could be serious.

Someone on here said it sounds like herpes.
It doesn't sound like herpes. If they are inside your mouth on your cheek or on your gums, it's more than likely an apthous ulcer, aka canker sore. They're not contageous, and I believe they are thought to be an auto-immune disorder brought on by stress, exhaustion or trauma.
Make sure you get plenty of rest, and they should go away. If you get them frequently, talk to your dentist about what you can do to reduce your outbreaks.

You can use something like Orajel to stop the pain for a little bit, but definitely gargle with salt water and try not to put your fingers in your mouth at all (germs).

Gargle with salt water before bed and as soon as you wake up in the morning.
This is to clear the existing problem. But for a permanent solution, make sure that you brush your teeth before going to bed.

You need to brush really good!!! And then gargle with Listerine for a while. I do salt water but it burns like ****. It makes the pain go away though.

Also - my dentist recommends throwing away your current toothbrush and buying a new one. Your current toothbrush could be the problem all together - transferring germs back and forth. If you don't want to throw it away, try boiling it....
