Listen to music. Get an ipod if you don't already have one. Then you can download music and listen while you run.

Things i do are listening to music when i run, I can't stand running and only hearing the sound of my breathing. Also the music pumps you up (depending on the music your listening to) also maybe run along side a freind. Sometimes that alone helps. But the music thing works. You can sometimes, depends on who you are (works for some people, not all), think about something totally enjoyable. Like a person, such as a friend or bf/gf, or maybe a place, such as Disney world. Even thinking about some problems of your can help, cause it takes your mind off the pain. Some tips too...make sure you are breathing correctly and pace yourself. I don't run that much, but irun correctly...and it helps alot!

Memorize stuff... poems, passages from scripture, speaches.

Memorizing would probably be easier on a treadmill, where there's a way to hold the document you're trying to commit to memory.

If you're out running on the road-side,... well... the ipod idea is good, maybe you could memorize the lyrics.. that's like a poem...

Regarding the pain of running- There's good pain, like from a good stretch or a heavy-duty massage. If you are having the good pain, keep going.

Then there's bad pain, like a sprained... anything. Bad pain- your body is trying to tell you something. Check with your doc- he/she may suggest a more gentle workout (working up to it gradually), mabye another way to achive your goal. Doc may also suggest a different sport.

Your body is in pain because it is trying to tell you that something is wrong! If you have pain from your sport, then you should not be doing it. You are not improving yourself. You are harming your body! Would you sacrifice your future health and mobility in old age for your sport now? Think about your future in 30 to 50 years. No sport is worth the damage to your body. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you and stop (and doctor worth their salt will tell you the same).

DO NOT listen to Zharantan. Pain is Weakness leaving the body. You know that Fawn. Things to help are contacting me and asking me to run with you :). but other than that i agree with everyone else. concentrate on your breathing and bring a friend along or listen to music on your iPod

You will burn yourself out and quit if you don't build up to it more gradually. Torturing yourself is the wrong way to learn a good habit. Start more slowly and then add a little more each week.

Concentrate on the rhythm of your breathing. I like to inhale through my nose twice & then exhale through my mouth.
