I am covering hideous tile from the 50's in my kitchen and want to glue bead board right on top of it so I need it to be thin (1/4" at the most) but tall because my ceiling is almost 9 feet tall and I don't want a seam. Anyone know where I can find it local in St. Louis or online?

You are going to have problems finding the beadboard over 8 ft in length. There is a beadboard paneling available which would meet your requirements of this thickness. Since you're going with that particular wall covering, why not stay true to the period architecturally? You could use a wide crown molding around the top and a 8-10" "mop board" around the bottom to cover the additional foot in space.

I've done these projects quite a bit, so I know the approximate cost of the beadboard and trim. Lumber went up quite a bit last winter. Although I don't know the room dimensions, I do know you're going to need a couple of cases (at least) of liquid nails or professional contractors grade adhesive which is going to be pretty expensive as well. If you don't own the home, I wouldn't invest this kind of money in the project. I would check with the owner and see if I could paint in an oil base paint (a neutral color). If you do own the home, why not remove the tiled walls and replace with a surface you're going to be able to work with in the future as well? The cost of sheetrocking and painting or papering the was, tho possibly a little more labor intense, would be more cost effective and add more resale value to the property than what you are planning to undertake. I wish you luck with whatever you decide. My husband's job required us to travel a great many years and I still shudder at some of the paint and tile colors (and one lime green and orange SHAG carpet) we've had to live with.

Maybe these people know something I don't, but I shop at these store and work on houses and all wood I know comes in 4 ft x 8 ft sheets. Sorry you will need two sheets. They will cut them to the size you need but a full sheet is 8 ft x 4 ft.

You will not find it. These products are made in large runs. 8' is the standard. GP used to make a 3/8" x 4" random length beadboard ship-lap. If it is still available, it could be glued and you could stagger the joints. It would look "real" because it would be wood boards, not plywood.

Finding it in lengths over 8 ft may be a problem.... have you considered using laminated flooring ? It comes in a wide variety of styles,.... tile, wood.. etc...

;) good luck!
