You'll need Real Player. You can download it for free at the website below. During the installation process, it'll ask you what types of files you'd like Real Player to associate with. Make sure .avi files are checked, but it probably already will be.

well u need to get a converter these to dvd format eg .vob
i use the following programs winavi, dvd shrink and nero, and pinncale 8 to great my menu system and tweak all the video files.
but if your looking for something basic all u need is winavi and nero
if u goto http://www.videohelp.com this contains all the guides on how to watch record edit etc.
the reason they are proberly not playing on your system is u dont have the correct codex if u goto http://www.videolan.org and download vlc that will play anything.

Nero resourceful and prescient can convert AVI to DVD, yet i've got had some subject concerns with this software. WinAVI Video Converter does a greater useful job of this job. WinAVI will convert AVI to DVD. Step one million: Please click the "DVD" button on the main interface , or you are able to click "menu" button on the main interface, then decide on "Any to DVD" on the submenu of the " format convert " ,and then this technique will pop-up a "decide on report" container. Then please decide on the AVI report which you particularly choose to converter. Step 2: Output itemizing: you are able to click the "Browse" button to decide on the output itemizing. Step 3: decide on encoder:you are able to click it to decide on the DVD mode. whilst it is waiting, purely click "ok" to start to transform.
