LINDA W, I do like silver and grey, and silver-grey. I'm not so keen on silver on its own.

I've been looking at some NAD on the web and some of it looks sophisticated.

Black is timeless.... grey equipment reminds me of a cheesey sound system my brother and I bought in the early-mid 80s

I do. My NAD stereo system is grey and was an expensive purchase and is the most sophisticated stereo equipment I've ever owned. It looks high end. Not sure if you see a relationship between silver & grey, but I'm not a fan of the silver trend, although I just bought an external hard drive - exterior is designed by Porsche - and its a flat metallic silver/grey colour. Still - my plasma is black - Samsung. Don't know what to say. Its freaking hard to coordinate. But grey does kind of say I don't care if you notice me, I'm low key in a NASA sort of way.

Black

No, but I feel that white would give a more sophisticated look than either gray or black. Black is too 90's, too dark, too blah. White is the 21st century. What product looks better and more sophisticated, the white ipod, or any black or gray mp3 player by another company?

Grey is not modern. Grey looks like you could afford not dye to make the color black. Grey makes things look less valuable.

No, unless it's silver instead of grey. I've noticed most TVs currently available in electronics stores are silver, but I prefer black. It stands out and looks modern without screaming for attention. As for computers, anything but putty, please!

as the late Spaulding Gray said of life on certain days: "Grey on the top, a little less grey in the middle, and grey on the bottom. Modernity? Ohh!!!... Mama.

Not really... grey is a more gloomy and dull color. silver, is much better.. but black is best if your looking for sophistication.
