Isn't it because like some kind of plastic in the diaper melts, and starts to sting their legs?

No, it has something to do with plastic, I remember, someone came to my college to talk about it.

Huh?? No! It's probably just uncomrfortable because the diaper gets filled with water and feels different than normal. Babies don't like change very much. Buy swimming diapers.

PS: I don't think plastic ever "melts" in water unless it's under the water for years and years. Plastic is pretty durable. And I don't think there's plastic on diapers anyway except the sticky-tabs.

Nope. Nothing in the diaper actually melts. Anything that would melt in water would melt in urine as well. Normal diapers are more absorbent than swim diapers. They're probably just crying because they have a huge sponge between their legs. I've never seen a baby cry because they have a regular diaper on. Most babies take some time to adjust to swimming. The water may be too cold or it's just something new. My son hated it at first because it scared him, but after a few minutes of splashing he was fine.
