When you start a fitness program, do you set your goals too high? Do your goal settings affect the way you stick to the program or give it up?

I don't set my goals high enough and get bored easy...but if I set them to high, I feel discouraged! It's HARD to find a middle ground:)

Yes..I believe I do....and I expect results too soon. Its seems so tough to keep going that I end up quitting. I do know that if I just held out that it would start showing...but....I cave.

i think that the best you can do is as high as you set your standards.

Especially when starting an excersise routine, you need to set a high long term goal, (like an ideal weight or to fit into those oh-so-cute-pants again), and then create milestones for yourself that are achievable (small daily victories) that will push you to your long term goal and make you feel good!

To keep youself in programs you need to feel like what you're doing is working and you want to see improvements, so i think goals are great! You'll never get to where you want to be, if you don't know where you're headed.

good luck!

If you set unrealistic goals, you'll end up getting depressed and quit. Start with a little in a reasonable amount of time. Once you reach that, keep adding until you reach your ultimate goal.

yep...and oftentimes, those unrealistic goals lead to injury...which really does affect the way i stick to the program. Nursing sprained ankles and screwed up knees is not the way to up your running mileage...but unrealistic goals are still a temptation.

Nope. My goals are always reachable...even the one about someday being wealthy...I know I'm not yet, but as long as I keep dreaming-anything is possible!

Always!
As a matter of fact, if I think it is doable, I do not even try it!
