We think he gets bored while we're sleeping. We bought him some toys and that worked for a few days but he's back to waking us up to play. Any ideas?

I can't just close the door either...tried that and he will claw at it until it opens.

Yes, he's fixed. Toys only work for a few days until the newness wears off. Earplugs not a solution because he will stand on me and meow right in my face if I don't hear him.

To the person who said "throw him against the wall" - I really hope you don't have pets (or kids).

Is he neutered? If not than that is the problem. If he is than he is most likely bored, cats in the wild hunt at night. So it is his instinct to want to play at night. Try and play with him before you go to bed and tire him out. If this doesn't work, I would get another cat for him to play with.

Yeah, when I was at my boyfriends house, his cat woke me up a couple of times each night. I couldn't close the door either. He said that his cat just wanted to snuggle and not be alone. I think your cat is bored, but bored from having all the humans sleeping. Try getting itto sleep with you on your bed so that it will not feel alone.

Cats naturally are active at night but if you make it a point to play with you cat and tire him out before you go to bed and do not feed him within 2 hours of bed time, he will eventually learn to sleep at night and play durring the day.

Cats are nocturnal, so for them night time is play time. Try spending some time playing with him before you go to bed, to try to tire him out. Another thing I do, is right before I go to bed is feeding time. A full belly will usually induce a sleepy kitty. And catnip is also a great thing, just puts them in a mellow mood.

Get a small pet carrier and put him in it at night. We have a miniature dachshund that used to be an outdoor dog with a previous owner; we turned him into an indoor dog but make him sleep in that carrier. He loves it. Not sure how your cat will react but it is worth a shot.

What if you shut him out of the room during the day and jar the door shut. If you train him to be ok being in a different room during the day it might be easier to shut the door at night and have him leave you alone.

Just an idea.

If you can, close the door. Eventually, the cat will get the idea. If you can't close the door, use a spray bottom to gently scare him away.

Cat's are nocturnal. I would try googling stopping cats scratching doors. I know there is a way but I'm not sure what it is. Good luck.

well cats are nocturnal, so going against their instincts is difficult. I had to hide all the cat toys or my cats would keep me up all night long. Do you have a garage you can keep him in at night?

Well... he is a cat and a cat will pretty much do whatever he/she wants to. You may just have to deal with it and ignore him as much as possible until he gets the hint that "oh they're sleeping and they won't play with me."
