Let's say it says "1 cup, divided" --At some point in the recipe's directions it will call for less than a cup. They expect you to save the remainder to use in another point in the directions. That's just to give you a heads-up that you won't be using the whole cup at once.

The first answer is right. Read the entire recipe; there will probably be two places where it tells you to use the salsa.

Check your recipe it probably calls for salsa twice in the recipe. It will tell you how much the first time you use it and how much the second time you use it...probably for the top.
