Let's really look at this - how much time and money is wasted everyday on religious activities? How many wars and deaths are the direct result of religion? How many confused and misguided people are there due to the insensible teachings of world religions and their churches? When will all of this end? Everyone knows what is right and what is wrong. Just live your life and try not to hurt anyone. Will I ever get to live in a world where most of the population actually uses their common sense and innate sense of reason, and doesn't subscribe to silly notions of supreme beings and eternal bliss or damnation?

Since it seems you want to be so logical about this stuff, I'll offer you a few more concepts.

Let's really look at this...
1. Through out mankind all successful societies have had some type of state-religion. Only when the individual is exaulted, with all it's lusts, does a country actually fail.

2. Hitler is a pretty good example of what happens when you mix 'new' science and politics. Hitler wanted to place his "master" race in dominion over and above all the other races. He recognized evolution as 'fact' and took it the next logical step, diminish inferior races and promote the master race. Since he really had no god, -the he himself was god. Choose whom to kill.

3. Mankind has an innate desire to have a relationship with his creator. You can preach materialism, individualism, or any other "ism" that you want, - but in the end, normal healthy individual know that their life matters and that there's significance to their existence.

When / if the world does get rid of the traditional religions that promote the highest ideals of humanity, -then you better replace it with something better, AND QUICK. The great sucking sound will be the void that's been created in individual's lives, and the money 'not being wasted', won't be used for shopping at the mall or going to the beach.

Never. Why be so indignant, just let them have it. By the way everyone does not know what is right and wrong. Perhaps you do, but some people need to be told. Where did you ever get the idea that the population is actually capable of using common sense and reason?

It seems to be part of a larger package of vague irrational issues cultures have to deal with. I think the trick is for society to come up with alternate institutions that will fulfill the emotional (or "spiritual") needs many, if not most, require.

Aside from the incoherent particular elements of all religions, there is, for example, the feeling of community it brings with it. The kind of institutions I'm thinking about would only arise out of social orders in which people actually give a crap about each other. Obviously this is some ways off.

"How many confused and misguided people are there due to the insensible teachings of world religions and their churches?"

Actually, I've found the opposite to be true. Don't let the extremists of this world taint your view on religion. Religion has done a ton of good in this world, but it's easier to criticize than recognize the good in anything...that's just human nature.

Many sickos revel in stoning to loss of life females buried waist deep within the flooring. The extra such men and women convert to Islam the cleanser they go away different faiths. Lots of muggers, rapists, pimps, drug purchasers rotting in jails convert to Islam. Good success to Islam! Btw- It is by no means suggested what number of Muslims go away Islam. There are plenty of x Muslim web sites. In Islamic nations they worry reprisals if the openely go away Islam and so the Numbers don't pop out. Even within the west XMuslims maintain a low profile because of pressures from their groups. As for the abnormal priest and a few VIP changing to islam, that form of again & forth converstions have constantly taken situation and is taking situation with all religions. There also are Muslim Imamas and clergymen who convert to Christanity or different faiths.

NO!
You might as well ask:
When will humans outgrow the adolescent notion of LAW?
We live in a mixed-up muddled -up shook-up world within which:

1) we attempt to IMPOSE some EXTERNAL order: LAW< RELIGION (ie. CONTROL over that which we have NO CONTROL)

and...

2) we attempt to AVOID orderly actions/reactions OURSELVES over which we DO HAVE CONTROL

Human beings are a work on progress...VERY SLOW PROGRESS.

When they've learned what life teaches them. And the more they refuse to see truth (an individual experience for everyone) the harsher the lessons will become. Once we have all learned to be love, peace, and joy (which we all truly are, but just unaware of it), then we will have moved out of adolescence into adulthood.

Yeah I hate it when organizations get together to try and make better people. The though of a fellowship helping others in need, and having shoulders to lean on in hard times just makes me sick. A bunch of people trying to do the right thing, and helping others to do the right thing, man that should end.

Who made you? Do you think the universe just "happened" in a big bang? You must look at the big picture if you want to marginalize religion. Religion is not as important as thanking God for your life and worshipping him for the mere fact that He is a creative genius.

Thinking about it in empirical terms, you're right. Religion is responsible for more suffering than it's helped. I don't see how people can cling to something so plainly wrong.
