Unless you know the personality of the person you're talking to, it is very difficult to detect or infer a sense of jovial banter, sarcasm, satire, and capturing the idiosynchracies of a person in the form of text is a very challenging task.

Because a question on Yahoo!answers might happen when that person has nowhere else to turn to. They need an answer that can help them.

Seriously, though... like life, it's a complete mixture: there are a few heartfelt cries amongst the chatter, and they're people who need a little encouragement from somewhere.

I think there are a lot of people on here with low self esteem, and this is the only place where they can get people to listen to them.

Do they? I had noticed some people seem to be territorial about what they consider their area of expertise. That simply shows insecurity to me and makes me laugh. I like to hear every one's opinion. It gives me lots to think about.
