I am dating this guy who when I am not around he drinks and smokes. He says he does it because he is bored. He also says he wants to quit so how do I help him? We have only been seeing each other for a week. I am not quite sure what to do? I only drink socially and I do not smoke. I don't mind his smoking but the drinking all the time. Now I like this guy... we have a lot in common. Please help....

Be careful and make shore he is really ready to stop for himself not just you. Then set up a buddy system where he can call you when ever he has the need to do it again

Keep him busy with other things. Find some common interest or new things that you would like to try. Smoking and drinking are OK in moderation. Sounds like he might have too much time on his hands.

Forget it. He's going to drink and smoke and he ain't quittin anytme soon. You can't help him. So either live with it or not. Bitching will just push him away. Find someone else that's not addicted to Alcohol and cigarettes. There is a MILLION more men where he came from, and they are drug and alcohol free. or at least moderate drinkers.

well if you have lots of stuff in common then start a new hobby and add to it start him on a hobby that is helpful rather than harmful such as restoring old cars or something liek that and you can get him started and compliment him on it when he works on it. or you can remove him from the influences that make him drink/smoke.

If you have things in common maybe you can suggest things to do that doesn't invole drinking or going to the bars. That way, there will not be a need to drink.

Be patient with him. Me and my guy just started dating, and if you want your guy to do right by you show him that your worth it. If you don't like his habits, simply let him know that. Good luck!

get him to quit, its really bad. i knwo its considered cool, but i still hate it. ask him if he's really willing to give up or he's just saying so for your sake? if he really wants to, then help him out the best as you can...

You can't change him. Why do chicks think they can change a guy? YOU CAN'T CHANGE HIM. Get over it and move on or deal with him the way he is.
