Does God deserve to be fought over?
Like God actually inspires more bloodshed then your mythical satan. And why should anyone fight for God? Afterall, God is omnipotent, and all that stuff, and fully capable of saving itself?
God, if he is really a symbol for all good in this world, would not want us to hurt others in its name.
If God exists, that is. Cos if God doesn't exist, then why should we be fighting over God? That makes even less sense.

And what I would like to say is that no one knows God personally. Theconcept of God is a rather abstract concept. I somehow find it strange to find it arousing passions in even the calmestand harmless of all people.
God can turn a right thinking man into a raging lunatic. Should we be dabbling in GOd at all? ( Like nuclear weapons for example! So many people are dying in name of religion, whether you like it or not. Should religion be curtailed? )

God did not make up religions.
When religion becomes organized, man ceases to be free. It is not God that is worshipped but the group or the authority that claims to speak in his name. It is not faith, but just social idolatry. God is not like a father in a patriarchal society, who has His favorite children to whom He communicates.
In the words of S. Radhakrishnan, Prophetic religion is severe, militant, uncompromising, intolerant, while mystic religions are renouncing, and peaceful.
It is interesting that so many Christians are in denial about violence propogated by evangelicals , missioneries , directly or indirectly.
Curches in North east India still using all kind of violent tactics to get converts. West simply ignores it. I first used to think may be not many people back home know , what their missioneries are really doing that in India. I found by interaction on Yahoo that they choose to ignore and deny.
Muslims have followed the suit set by Christians.
Funny is that if you really study concept of god in Abrahmic religions is not exactly that much monotheistic. It is more of "my God is better (true god) than your God (false god) " concept.
Thats where the problem starts. Next step is to prove the superiority.

If God existed, and if he were as powerful as Christians, Muslims, and Jews say he is, then he should be able to defend himself from any who offend him. The fact that they feel the need to defend him, fight for him, and even go to war in his name, shows that he is really very weak (or nonexistant) and cannot fight his own battles.
Of course, if he really were all-powerful, then he would not be offended in the first place. What can any mere mortal do to offend, insult, or upset a being that created everything, owns everything, has all power, and is perfect in every possible way? Yet the Bible shows God always being angry about something, always smiting people left, right, and center for the slightest of infractions. He is so easily offended that he destroys entire cities, and at one point even flooded the whole world, killing the innocent along with the guilty, just because he regretted ever having made mankind.
Are these the actions of a perfect being? No, they are the actions of a being made in the image of those who worship him. They were easily offended by any departure from their cruel and barbaric laws, so they worshipped a god who was the same way--and so do Christians and Muslims.

The bible does state that the Christian God is a jealous God. It's entirely possible that the reasons why we are fighting over God are part of a larger plan of God's--one that we can't fathom.
That question is like asking which religion is better than the other.
Realistically, I think that God doesn't want us to fight over which religion is better. But, read the bible, and get some case studies, if you will, regarding what type of war between peoples was acceptable in God's eyes.

I do not believe God "wants" us to fight over him. You are correct, most the wars and fighting on this Earth has been over religion. This is why religion is not the best thing (I'm sure that will tick many people off, but we are all entitled to our thoughts). God is everything...good and bad. The Bible says, he is everything seen and unseen. It does NOT say, he is everything "good" seen and unseen. He also says, "nothing can exist without it's opposite". You would not know the meaning of "light" if you never experience "dark". You cannot fully know "Good" if you never knew "Bad". Can you think of anything that exists without an opposite? We as Human's do not really think "outside the box". If we understood, our souls never die (only our body), we are always exisiting with and part of God...our soul IS part of God and we can never seperate ourselves from him. If you really believed your soul continues to live not matter what, would you really care how many times your body died? Our physical form is not as important as the soul, which is what God knows us as...it never dies. We put too much importance on the physical form and not enough on the soul. If you really believe you (your soul) never dies, then the physical death in war or any other way, really isn't that important. People die, but the soul doesn't. God may not see our physical form as being "hurt" the soul isn't being "hurt". Try to think outside the physical body, and that may help you understand where God may be coming from.

First off there are many differnt interpretations of God. The God of Islam is alot Differnt from the God of Christianity. The one thing that you have to remember is that Both Gods were created by the words of man. Every single Religion out there thinks it has the right answers but sadly none of them actually do. When Christianity was first created early christians decided to go to the Holy lands and re-claim them in the Name of God. They then Proceeded to Massacre alot of Muslims in the City of Jerusalem. To each religion this was a holy city and while the muslims were living there first the Christians decided they wanted it. This became known as the Crusades. Years later when Christianity spread to North America and South America the same "Killing" mentality spread. Many amazing Cultures were wiped out by Christians such as the Aztecs. They weren't fighting over god but they were killed by men who mis enterpreted gods message. They felt that if you didn't believe what they did you were inferiour and you deserved to die. I don't believe in religion because it was created by man so it makes it Fallible. I do however believe there is a god but his message hasn't been accurately figured out.

Maybe (for Christians) a wrong interpretation of 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5; maybe (for Muslims) an over-zealous interpretation of certain Quran verses.
Whatever we believe, there's no doubt that religious belief goes to the very core of people's beings and is therefore passionately held by them.

I don't agree with people who do any killing "In God's name". I don't care if it's a Jihad attack or blowing up an abortion clinic, GOd would NOT approve. He wants us to love (which can be VERY challenging...killing would probably be the easy way....). I think the people who do these things will have to face God, and I wonder what they will say then?
Try reading the book "The Case for Faith" it gives all views on religion.

God created us as spiritual beings, who by our nature will seek him out. We can suppress that desire and just write him off. He did not create robots, even the angels were created with choice. Since Adam and Eve chose not to follow God's direction man and the universe have existed in a fallen state. People have done stupid things in the name of God. Many think they are doing God's will by killing others. God has even called on the Isrealites to kill every man woman child and animal of certain civilizations. Why? God has always brought judgement on people who turn away from him. God has a tremendous amount of mercy for everyone, but he hates evil and vile things. Back in the early days of the Isrealites God was working to create a more pure society that would bring honor and glory to him and purge out the people who were sacrificing there children as burnt offerings to gods that do not exist and lived in sexual perversion and sin of every kind. He loves us and he made a way for us to come to him and live lives pleasing to him by giving us Jesus Christ who made the ultimate pure sacrifice and then took his life back from death and sits at Gods right hand. If you give your life to Christ and seek to do his will you will experience a life with meaning and passion and joy. We will always have pain and suffering in this world, but this life is just the probation period. Our true life begins when this one is complete. I choose to give my life and my treasure to Jesus Christ who is our friend, our dad, our brother, our savior.

The fighting, thinking ourselves superior, and possession of land and people.....these are the traces of the animal is us...which is still alive.
since most of the fights were for god and religion, we idiotically blame god and religions for this struggle to sruvive.
We fight for religions for God
We fight for countries
we fight for women
we fight for money
we fight for cultures
we fight for space
we fight for oil
we will fight for water
The best thing is that if we recognise this animal instict in us and understand Nature's game....all the fights would come to an end.
But is it possible ? well that makes another question

You missed the boat buddy. God is love. I am not fighting over him. I want to share the good news with you, but if you are not wise enough to listen, read the Bible, pray, attend services--faith comes from hearing...
