Like everyone else has said - just about everything has a side effect. My current method of birth control is an IUD (Intra Uterine Device). I had been on the pill for more than 6 years and I was getting sick & tired of paying $10 every month for my pack of pills. I chose the IUD because it is hormone free (there are different kinds & some have hormones), cost effective (I don't have to buy pills every month), long lasting (mine lasts 10 years), & it is easily removable/reversible. As far as side effects go, I don't have any with the IUD. When I was on the pill I had noticed that after a few years on the pill I was gaining weight, but I don't know if that had to do more with age than the pills! LOL!
Now keep in mind that the side effects you see listed doesn't mean that it will happen to you. When drugs are at the testing/experimental stage the people that are participating in that study have to report EVERYTHING they felt while they were taking that drug. A person might report nausea but maybe that person ate something bad ealier in the day but since they are taking a new experimental drug they are required to report it. I included a link to the FDA website so that you can research how drug studies are performed and the procedures involved. It will definitley clear up your questions about side effects and how they get that information.

How's this for a side effect? I have my first child b/c of the pill, my second b/c of a condom (it broke) and my thrid b/c of a trip to Florida-no birth control, just a husband who did not want to get snipped.
Try the patch. I have a friend who loves it. But, if is only effective for people who are not much above their ideal weight (per RX inserts).
Most effective means of contraception have side effects. The pill was my fave, it made my periods easier to deal with. But, pill users should not smoke.
OH, BTW, had a coworker who worked for a company that did drug research. In drug studies, ANY possible reaction has to be reported. So, if you are taking a study drug, you have to report any headache, muscle pain etc. That is why the lists are so long.

Every drug has possible side effects. ASPRIN has possible side effects. Just because they're listed as a possibility and occured in .05% of the people that were tested doesn't mean they're going to happen to you. Most people have no problems using one form of the pill or another. Don't freak out about it and talk to your doctor.

Those side effects by law have to be listed. Many depend on your lifestyle such as smoker, wieght, and age. Ask your doctor to recommend one to you. My wife uses the patch and was worried about the clotting problems associated with it and her doctor told her she did not meet the criteria to worry.
Education is always the best route. Get the doc to give you some info.

I'd suggest a diaphragm. You fill it with spermicidal jelly and insert it up inside your vagina. It's only awkward the first few times. A few hours after sex, you take it out and clean it before storing it away for the next time you have sex.
No side effects, as long as you remember to use it everytime. The gynecologist can fit you for one.
