No, orthodoxy is just generally a stricter interpretation of the same religion. Within your reference of Jedi Knights, an orthodox Jedi Knight would never use any weapon that he did not create (such as a light sabre or hand made blaster). While that Jedi would go to extreme lengths and suffering to utilize just personally created weapons, another Jedi (perhaps of even greater power) might be running around with an array of store bought blasters and choose not to use a light sabre at all.

I think they are farther away from the truth than the rest of us because their minds are closed to other truths in our universe. They believe their doctrine, and that's it. Every thing else is "evil" or unsavory. A jedi knight might be closer than a devout Christian to the "truth" so, who knows? LOL!! I most certainly don't think anyone who limits their thinking and refuses to ask questions is going to get far in life, and may be very suprised when this life is over at what they see.

No offence, but you're kidding yourself if you think that.
But yeah, definitely closer than Jedi Knights and Giant trees. lol. Besides there is no such thing as 'The Truth'. There is history and facts and science and data and research, and that;s the closest to any truth as it gets.

Anyone who believes in anything is focused on their own self righteousness. True believers are unwilling or unable to consider anything other than what agrees with their limited vision. If people would grasp the idea of accepting the possibility of any idea, religion or thought, this world would be at peace.

I like your answer Don S. It reminded me of something in the Bible at John 17 v 3 which reads "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Christ Jesus.
The true God is identified at Psalm 83 v 18 which is a good place to start.

Probably. There is only one ultimate truth, and the closer one gets to Jesus, the closer they are to that truth.

not really, if their beliefs prevent them from:
a) hearing and contemplating other possibilities
b) allowing other people their own religious beliefs (i.e. not allowing tolerance of others)
or
c) Learning about their OWN religion other than what is told to them.
If a belief allows you to find peace and fulfillment spiritually within yourself then you are closer to "truth" than those who follow a religion simply because it is socially expected.
