Meditation is a beneficial thing. Religious prayer gives the same benefits of meditation, the difference being, that people who get the benefits of mediation, during prayer, confuse this with a relationship with God.

Ask a religious person how you can have a relationship with God, and he will tell you that it is through prayer, however, he confuses the calming effect of mediation, with a full-blown relationship with God.

I suppose, under this logic, I should confuse every pleasant sensation with a whisper from God.

Why do they attribute ANYTHING to prayer? They pray for people to be healed, and they aren't healed. They pray for protection from evil, and they get robbed, raped, and murdered as much as anyone else. They pray for wisdom, yet they believe that a man named Balaam had a talking donkey and that the sun and moon once stood still in the sky. God can't do so much as blow out a candle on a child's birthday cake, yet they'll ask God to heal that child of cancer, as if he gives a crap.

Prayer is a holdover from infancy, when we all had a "higher power"--our mothers--taking care of us, feeding us, providing for our needs, comforting us, and answering our cries for help. Some people retain those feelings from infancy and they still want someone else to take care of them, feed them, provide their needs, comfort them, and answer their cries for help. They don't know that it's time to leave the crib and learn to walk.

I disagree. Meditation is fine, and does have calming benefits.

However, prayer is sort of meditation+. The plus, of course, being God. Meditation, you can do alone. Prayer needs someone to hear you. Knowing that Someone is there for me makes all the difference.

And why shouldn't pleasant sensations be "whispers from God"?? Nice analogy!

Meditation is something totally different then prayer! When you pray you are talking to god and that calm feeling is the feeling that someone is there for you!

To have a relationship with God, you need to pray and you need to read the bible. I have recieved a calming affect and help from prayer during work. I have prayed while I am running around working and I have recieved calm.

This is the big philosophical question of God. It is impossible to know whether God is giving the sensation, or it is from relaxing. If we knew the answer to that, everyone would believe or disbelieve. Your answer is subjective to your opinion.
