It would seem stupid to clean a needle prior to a lethal injection, but I don't think they clean the needle (it comes in a sterile package). What happens with lethal injection is, it is given through an IV. The person's arm/hand is cleaned prior to starting the IV. The actual chemicals are then released into the IV tube from another room. But why they would bother to clean the arm/hand prior to a lethal injection must be out of habit.

As far as I know, doctors don't clean up the nidels before the lethal injection. They generally clean the arm, but not the nidels. Usually the nidel comes with a sterile cover which they remove then insert the nidel into the arm. I'm not sure who told you they clean up the nidels. If I were you, I'd invest in a dictionary.

My opinion.

A sterile needle is used because it is cheaper and safer to one supply system. In other words it is cheaper to sterilize a needle even when it doesn't need to be sterile than deal with the extra vigilance necessary to ensure the needle is sterile if there are non-sterile needles about.

Secondly, the U.S. Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishments. If for some reason the injection was not fatal the infection that might result from using a non-sterile needle might be considered cruel and unusual.

The needles are actually sterile as well as cleaning the injection site for infection. I know this sounds weird, but what if there is a pardon at last second? Another reason for doing so is because it is possible to survive the injection and they don't want you dying of infection in your cell waiting for another date.

it's called ethics. However I do not believe medical doctors should deliver lethal injections because of the Hippocratic oath.Any duffus could be trained to give the injection.

What's worse....they are changing lethal injection because they say it is too painful for the convicted killer they are injecting.

Explain that.

Well we wouldn't want them to go to hell AND be sick!
I think it would be okay to use the same one needle over and over, and instead of expencive drugs, I think bleach would be just as effective and save a lot of money.

Because it is the humane way and when killing a human being we must make it proper. Sick huh?
