there is not really a number to put on how many times you have to meet before you ask them out. preferably more than once because one meeting my catch your curiosity but people are not always the same day to day. i say get to know the person a little bit more. getting to know them more also helps with the dating part. there is the basic, "lets go to the movies," but what if they are more of an intellectual? feel comfortable with that person or as comfortable as you can be to hold a conversation or a fun time. there is no rush to get to know someone and there are more ways to get to know them, not just dating.

If you are meeting them multiple times, isnt that a date?
If its a social situation. Even if you split the bill, and if your both having a good time. Then I think it can be called a date.
Its not a date if your just out with a bunch of friends, and there is no obvious pairing going on.

Once as far as I'm concerned. If you two can spark up a conversation, be brave. If keep running into them and never ask them out, particularly if the interest is there you may lose them for lack of effort (or courage).

you can ask them the first time you meet them .. i mean after introducing yourself getting to know them a lil and letting them know that u r not a psycho. in case you dont get to see the person again you gotta ask them the first time u meet them
