When you paint several things are important, besides what color and type of paint:
1. The surface is prepared (clean, dry, no grease, sound and compatible to the paint you about to put on it)
2. Use good proper tools and materials. Single coat-paint is better then many-coat paint even if costs twice as much. You tools; rollers and brushes must be compatible with paint and surface.
3. You have good lighting, temperature and humidity.
4. Mask the areas you do not want the paint on like masking it with a good quality masking tape and drop cloth. I prefer fabric like cotton fro the drop cloth. Do not use plastic if you have to step on it. It is not safe!
5. Have firm ladders an all that.
6. Now relax and enjoy painting as you give yourself all the time in the world. Well almost.

The paint you use is very important. You want a good quality paint because if you use cheap paint no matter how good you paint it will not look nearly as good as a quality paint.

Also you want to buy painter's type, its blue. Its a little more expensive but well worth it. You get much cleaner lines with painter's tape then just plain masking type. Make sure when you apply it you press down very hard on the tape to seal it properly.

The tools you buy to paint are very important too. I always had trouble painting the line where the ceiling and wall meets. I have popcorn ceilings so I cant tape it off, its not a smooth line. I use this tool called straight edge and it made a world of difference, instead of trying to free hand it, I am not good a painting straight lines!

Using small sponge rollers for your trim around your doors gives a much cleaner look then using a brush.

Always paint the ceiling first. Never roll in a straight line, but paint in curves, it gets better coverage. I never use a primer, I buy Kilz paint, you rarely need to put a second coat, unless its a dark color, then it requires two coats. Hope this helps!

First of all you want to make sure that what your painting has no imperfections and is acceptible to paint. Then you need to prime it. I would suggest kills primer or kills 2 it will hide anything. I have used it to cover very very very badly yellowed ceilings. You can roll it on, but I would suggest buying a sprayer, not one of those wagner home-owner spwayers. I mean a real sprayer you can get one at home depot for about 2 or 3 hundred dollars, but its worth the money. Either way you get what you pay for. Buy good paint that will self level and be easy to apply. If you buy a sprayer you will get a nice uniform paint. its not hard to learn how to use either. After a min or two you will have the hang of it. Just keep the prayer the same distancefrom the wall or whatever you are painting. You may have to thin the paint just enough to get it movenig around depending on what kind of paint you use.

Paint, paint, most places all paints come from alot of the same vats.
Your glidden paint could of came from the same vat as california paint, or ace, all the upper $$ paints are nice, the thing is get a Purdy brush and some quality applicators (rollers covers, handles and a good extension pole) no a $7.00 paint brush isn't good unless it's like a 2 inch flat brush, all my brushes cost about 20.00 buck s each and will last forever if taken care of.
Your only as good as your tools.

well first make sure you're using a good quality paint, and make sure to buy primer that works with the color paint you'r using( you can ask the person at the hardware store for help with that). make sure to buy more than you think you'll need bc more likely than not u'll need it, and that you know that itll be the same color. next you take your time and tape off the section you plan to paint; be careful to place the tape strait and flat (if you dont you get weird lines and if its not flat pain can get under the tape) after you have done that then apply a layer of primer and you let that dry(u may need a second coat of primer but not usually) when that is done you apply the first coat of color and let it dry ( it may take anywhere from 2-4 coats to get your desired color). another helpful tip is that even when applying primer make sure your brush strokes are all in the same directions. good luck i hope it turns out well. i hope this helps.
