i think this test will actually increase the number of std's out there, people will make their dates take this "test" (which will be far from accurate) and then assume that the person is clean. does this test also provide results for chlamydia, gonorrhea etc.? i think it will allow people to rationalize the fact that they 'don't need a condom' cuz they're clean

Interesting idea.
I would buy such a test (If I were still dating) if it were immediately accurate, but only prove to my date that I am safe as a show of good faith.
I would not require my date to take one. That is invasion of privacy, and a little much for a date.
I think the world will be a scary place when we refuse to date people that won't take an on-the-spot test to prove they're clean.
Why not require a urine test for drugs too?
Or an IQ test?
Or a genetic compatability test?
I think we are getting too "fast food" with our lives.
I went with a boyfriend to the clinic for a test... but we'd been together 3 months by then and both wanted to be sure.
The idea of an over the counter HIV test is a nice one - provided it's results confirm 100%. Marketing it as a date-friendly test may be a mistake.

I don't know about that one. But I know that, when you go take a test at the hospital, the y do both: the one which really proves that you don't have HIV (but which only proves that you were safe 3 months ago) and another one. The other one is not 100% accurate, far from it. So I don't think I would be over enthusiastic about the over-the-counter one, except if it's proven that it's 100% reliable.

Now that I am married, I really don't have a use for it.
Five years ago, when I was single? OH YEAH! I'd be pricking some body's finger or plucking some body's hair out for a sample or however you administer the test! LOL
You betcha!

it still would not be accurate since there is a 3 months window period. But i definitely would make my date take a aids test.
