Bite the bullet, move away, take a course in another state. Go out and be who you really wanna be. Call your parents from time to time to let them know how you are getting along, but don't ask them for financial help.

Please understand that you will "never" actually be able to cut the umbilical cord. You will always be your parents' "child". Regardless of how old you become, you'll always be their baby. That's just a fact of life. However, by acting responsibly (continuing your schooling, working, moving out on your own with no financial help from your parents, etc.) is a good way to show your parents' that you've grown up, matured and are ready to "cut the cord".
I hope that my answer has helped you.
Have a lovely rest of the day.

well if it is the parents hanging on move out but make sure you call them some times to keep them in your lives you talking to them will make them feel like they are still in your life and thus not freak and pop up all the time. if you are the one hanging on get some balls and hit the road or at least work your way toward it doesnt all have to happen at once but in a timely fashion.
as for a baby umbilical cord let the doctor do that.
