I just got more memory for my computer, a lot more. Whenever I try to play The Sims, it lets me play for about 5-10 minutes and then shuts right off. It's really frustrating, especially if I haven't saved. Did I do something wrong when putting on the memory for my computer?

I had the same problem a while back and a friend of mine who is a "genius" when it comes to computers sent me this email. Hope it helps!!

Before you increase your virtual memory, you need to
find out how much physical memory is in your computer.
To do this:
1. Select "Start" "Programs" "Accessories"
"System Tools" "System Information"
2. Look at Total System Memory - it'll probably
be either 256MB or 512MB.
3. Close the System Information program.

Next, you need to start the Device Manager program. To
do this:
1. Click on your My Computer icon using the
RIGHT mouse button, and select "Properties". This will
bring up a window labeled "System Properties".
2. Click on the tab labeled "Advanced"
3. You'll see a section labeled "Performance".
Click on the "Settings" button in that section.
4. A new window, labeled "Performance Options"
should appear. Click on the tab labeled "Advanced".
5. Now, at the bottom of the window there should
be a section titled "Virtual Memory". In this section
is a button labeled "Change". Click that button.
6. A new window should appear, titled "Virtual
Memory". Click on "Custom Size"
7. If your computer has 512MB of total physical
memory, enter "1536" (without the quotation marks) in
both the "Initial Size" and "Maximum Size" text boxes.
If your computer has 256MB of total physical memory,
enter "1792" in each box.
8. Click on the "Set" button, and then the "OK"
button. The "Virtual Memory" window should close.
9. Click on the "Apply" and then the "OK"
buttons of the "Performance Options" window. That
window should then close.
10. Click on the "Apply" and then the "OK"
buttons of the "System Properties" window. That window
should then close.

At this point, a message window will probably appear
informing you that you need to reboot your computer
for the changes to take effect, and wanting to know if
you wish to do so now. If so, click on "OK" or "Yes",
and your computer should reboot and you're done. If
not, just shut down the computer yourself and restart it.

Check to see if the memory is even recognized by your system.

Control panel then system. Under the general tab it will tell you how much memory you have.

Hopefully you made sure you got the right memory for your PC. Not all are compatible with all machines. check to make sure you inserted it properly as well.

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE MEMORY IN FROM SLOT ONE, HIGHEST TO LOWEST, ALSO CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR CPU FAN IS WORKING ALLRIGHT, MAYBE TOO MUCH MEMORY FOR YOUR COMPUTER TO HANDLE, ITS OVERHEATING CAUSING IT TO SHUT DOWN.
