i don't think so. i went through high school without a cell phone and made it through fine.

Students should be allowed to carry a cellular phone with them during school hours. To prevent disruption of class the phones should always be off. They should not use the phone unless they are on break or it is an emergency. Not a "Oh my goodness, my hair is a mess" emergency, but a true emergency. We have school violence and natural disasters, things that happen not on the average day, but a parent or guardian does feel more at ease believing that if they can find their child or reassure them. So I say allow cell phones, but be responsible. Don't disrupt the class.

two answers 1st no it is not necssary to have a cell phone in school you are there to learn not too worry about who might be caling or texting you it is distracting! on the other hand if you need to notify a parent of any change in activity after school it is necessary to have one ,just not on until school is over with

Cell phones are good to have in case they are needed, especially in the case of latch key kids, etc.
That being said, they all have the silent feature for a reason!!

I think that since the Columbine disaster and 9-11, parents want to be able to communicate with their kids.

Yes, i remeber, i used to be so bored, so i would text message my friends, mostly in band and math class because they're so boring and i can't stand them. i can't live without it. you HAVE to have one at ALL times-- same with ipods, but sadly our schools don't let us listen to it, even though im a rebel and still listen to it. but im in univ. now and still carry my ipod and cell everywhere. who knows when you get bored and need to listen to some tunes? or when you need to call your mom or text your friend?.

no. if the kids need to call they can use the school phone.
