I have tried every repellent made, and they stink, so I don't like them in the house. What I finally did, was put large decorative rocks in the pots to discourage them. I have also used foil around the plant - they don't like the noise it makes or the way it crinkles when they paw at it. I didn't like silver lined plants, so stuck with the rocks

Hi...I also haven't been around here much, partly due to not having many plants, either! But, I try. Anyway...
I have dealt with the cat problem, too. I don't really remember what finally stopped the cats from digging, but, it seems that keeping catnip around was a help. Buy a box, keep it fresh, and buy a bit of mesh fabric to tie-up little bundles of it. In fact, you can make very small bundles, then just empty them out and refill with fresh catnip.

For cat boxes, Arm & Hammer sells these pan liners that are like disposable diapers. I used those for a while in the cat box, to keep the cats from scratching away the bottom of their litter box. They seem to hate scratching it, so, it worked! (Now, layers of old newspaper works just fine, and so I save the money and don't buy the liners.) I wonder if strips of something like the pan liners could be taped across the top of a flower pot? At least while re-training the cats, maybe!

You can go to the pet store and get some sprays that are supposed to deter cats from a certain area. You spray them in the area you don't want your cat. This way, you're not punishing your cat for digging, you're preventing your cat from digging. Works on some, not on others, but worth a shot (digging is a natural behavior, and if you punish your cat for digging, she will continue to do it when you're not around and knows she won't be punished. Punishing her for it later will have no effect.) I've also heard that the scent of orange is good for keeping cats away from things (someone recommended this to me to keep mine from climbing my Christmas tree). Anyway, punishment is not the best option, it's better to prevent her from doing it.

I think they even make a spray that "repels" cats. You would probably have to talk to a pet store about it to find out what it is.
