Without using faith or belief to give you an answer, here is a basic and non-religious answer: It is different because it has not been scientifically explained away. The sun no longer comes up becasue Ra the Egyptian sun god carries it across the sky with his chariot. Lightning is no longer thrown down from the heavens by Zeus. Mythology is just religion made obsolete through science.

Ok, so far you have only ridiculous answers so i'll try to play devil's advocate. So, if i were religious, i would say that I believe because God asked the men to write the Bible. Right off the bat, no way of reputing that cuz there's no proof in either direction. There technically is no difference. Just a choice. Generally, these people have faith because they were born into it, or because they had a "religious experience." Their lives were going down the tubes, or a near death experience, and then they "found God" aka someone asked them go to church. This belief in a higher being helps them with the uncertainties of life. Bad things don't necessarily happen cuz of the devil either, that's not a very good understanding of the religion. Bad things happen because God gave us the gift of choice and free will. We do bad things because we choose to. And that's a gross generalization to say "they pass on responsiblities." That's not exactly what they do. They generally have such wonderful faith, that even when it looks like things will never go right, God has a plan. Now the last part of your question can be posed about any organization, including the american government. The american government has caused mass genocide and to the indigenous people's of this land. How can you live here? What about such simple things as alcohol and any product that is owned by Merril Lynch, such as Kraft? You ever eat Kraft Macaroni? You helped kill my grandfather who died of lung cancer. They do not currently do those things. However, they do use some "sneaky" tactics to control thought, and they do have many narrow minded views. However, we have to be careful as the "non believers" not to stupe to their level and merely attack. Understanding is the key to acceptance.

The only difference I can see is because Christianity and such is monotheistic, being they have one God.
People use religion as an escape from their lives. If they do something wrong, they pray and their concious is resolved. It's an easy route. If there is any screw up in their life, they can blame it on the devil instead of on theirself and ask God for forgiveness, and that makes them happy.
If the Roman and Greek gods weren't real, what makes these other theists' gods more real than those? Nothing. The Bible, as you stated was written by man. It's nothing but man's interpretation of these legends and glorified into a book. There is nothing to make it truthful. The bible had to be hand written and copied by hand, so it could have changed. Any truth there once was in the bible is probably lost.
Religion has it's good points, it may make people behave better. But I don't like that people who don't conform to their religion are considered to have no morals, religion doesn't give you morals, beign a good person does. Religion just spilts people up world wide, no matter how many people they bring together in church.
But they have, for the most part, been conditioned as children to believe in this God and not to renounce him, and they are too simple to look at it and realize it doesn't make sense. They don't have much faith either, it's just something planted in their heads. They don't care enough to read the bible and spread the name of their Lord, and they don't care enough to really look at the whole religion and see it's flaws.

It is no different... To the person who said the other religions have been explained away by science - try evolution....
In the end, these people have no answers except for just saying faith. It would be nice if we could all personally have visions and speak directly to god as the one poster claims. But in absence of that, I will live my life the best I can according to what I inherently know is right and wrong. I won't do this because I expect to get rewarded by heaven or because I fear hell, I will do it because I believe in humanity and want to contribute to the progress and enlightenment of mankind. I refuse to blindly believe something I know makes no sense. I am sure the true believers will say my problem is I don't have faith and I haven't taken god into my heart. Well the fact is I am open and I have thought about the world and its nature and nothing shows me a god - at least in the way he/she is commonly thought of.... That is what MY heart tells me....

I so agree with you, especially the point about pushing all responsibilities onto an invisible entity. There isn't really any difference between worshiping Zeus or God. But Christians love to put up a roadblock by saying "Oh no, other Gods are false and they are Satan is disguise! Our way is the ONLY truth!"
It must be nice to live in a "Just because I said so" state of mind.

It is not any different at all.The roman and greek mythology and mystery religions are all in the bible
You are right it was written by man, copied by man and changed by man to the point where they are more lies in there than truth. Many will think I am the devil and going to hell because I think different. However I feel that we are very close to a spiritual awakening now that we are in the sign of water where all life came from I believe the truth will surface soon. And all these fairy tales will be placed beside the greek and roman gods in the history books where they should be.God is love and that is all it is.It is not a man or a book as many want u to think>

God is perfect. Zues and other mythological characters had many flaws.
People are responsible for their actions. the Devil can't make youi ido anything. Life would be unfair if god gave us temptation that we couldn't handle.
Why can't hard scientific fact support religion. God is a scientist, the greatest one at that.
People aren't perfect. that explains:And finally, how do you support a religion or group that is responsible for so much death, torture, control, burnings, destruction and misery "in the name of the lord".
people get carried away with their imperfect translations of the gospel. People suck. people give their religions and God a bad name.

Dear CPR,
I can never make you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ! And guess what? You cannot believe on the Lord Jesus Christ by your faith either! Sounds a little strange, doesn't it? Every single church has stated that a person can believe on Christ and therefore become saved. This is totally false!! You must understand that man is spiritually DEAD! A dead person cannot clothe themselves, feed themselves, or do anything....because they are DEAD in sins and trespasses. Consequently, when a spiritually dead person dies physically, their destination is hell. Hell is where this individual will spend eternity under the wrath of God (Jesus Christ). In order to escape hell, one must be born from above (undergo a birth). Only God, the Lord Jesus Christ can do this!! None of us had any say as to when we were born, or what are skin color would be, or if we would be left or right handed, or if we would be male or female.....God made all those choices. So it is with the second birth (salvation). Christ has chosen to save some of the vile sinners of the human race and this was not based on anything we did. It is all God's mercy and His choice. I am running out of room so may I direct you to: www.familyradio.com for more info.

ok....Jesus Christ was a real man who walked this Earth. Look up any history book and you will find Him in there (along with the fact that He performed miracles). As far as the whole devil thing, you've got that kinda twisted. The devil doesn't make us do bad things. All the devil does is tempt us and we, as humans, fall into his tricks and do the bad things. As far as your last question, there are many, many people out there at are extremists. These people don't really have a view of what God or Jesus Christ is. They tend to distort faith and turn it to something evil. It's not their fault, they're just misinformed. ok, I hope this helps. God bless you and have a good day.

There is NO difference except that Christianity is more dangerous b/c there is more truth mixed with the political lies down the line of thousands of years. A lie is a lie and can be recognized but the truth mixed with lies will drown most common people. A real God and a real prophet, Jesus who the Jewish Saul, killer of thousands Christians later known as St. Paul introduced Greek mythology into Christianity and made him the son of God. Thus the Greek Orthodox Church. If you can not defeat Christianity from outside, do it from within, and Saul's method worked. Yahoo! search prophesies of Islam/Muhammad in the Bible and other holy documents. I dare you.
