We bought Lite-On from Costco. It has both DVD and VHS and transfers them from one another effortlessly. It was very inexpensive. A co-worker told me this brand actually makes electronics for some of the larger companies. We have had it for a while now and have not had a single problem with it. It even works better and much faster than the Toshiba DVR that we have at my work. I can be a brand snob but now I'm, very happy with that purchase and will consider other electronics from this company.

I have been using an ilo from Wal-Mart for 2 or 3 years, have recorded about 1,000 DVD's and no problems.

I prefer RCA, but if you don't want to pay extra for the brand, I'd get Durabrand from Wal-Mart. It could be just as good.

I personally think that any one is good. Because in six months or so it will change. So buy cheap one so when the real good one comes out you give your old one to charity.
