single malt! definitly more complex. there are 6 scotch reigions and they all have different characters: highlands, lowlands, cambelltown, speyside, islay, and a new one jura. if you go toa liquor store and look at a bottle of dalviene it will tell you a scotch thats a good example of every region.

Silly question... :-)

A single malt is almost always to be preferred... a lot more care and quality goes into their production, hence the price.. and the better flavour.
Whisky is actually a very personal taste, and you will find that some suit you better than others... you may like a lighter, almost clear whisky, or prefer a darker, more smokey finish... There's a lot of variation, and nobody can tell you which is "best"...

In general, Speyside malts are reliable, and there are a lot to choose from... although, out of sheer partisan pride, I have to mention Arran whisky... since I have family roots on the island, I'm obliged to give a cheer for the home team :-)

A little careful research is called for... have fun.

(Grrr... Yahoo's spell checker keeps insisting that it's spelled "whiskey", but that's an entirely different substance... estimable in its own right, I'm sure, but not "scotch")

Looking for a good single malt depends strictly upon your tastes. If you like smoky or peaty flavors then try the Isaly malts, such as Lagavullin or Caol Isla. If you like a smoother taste try the highland malts. A very reasonably priced single malt from the highlands is The Dalmore. Good for a starting single malt drinker.

If you are happy with Black Label, then keep drinking it. Traditionally aged single malts are 'better', depending on quality, but drink what you like!
