That is an interesting question! I like it. Nobody knows, but my guess is he did have an aviary with many other birds (perhaps excepting birds of prey that eat other birds) that could have been a very open space. Many people think that most of the animals were babies, so the woodpecker babies wouldn't start doing any real damage for a while, and by that time, it would have been OK to have a hole-ridden ark. I don't know the density of gopherwood, but obviously it was dense enough, because it made it through the flood!

Good question...never thought of that before!
I believe that God is all-powerful, and I belive in the story of Noah and the ark. My guess is that during the time on the ark, God temporarilly took away the woodpecker's desire to peck at wood. It's very possible, and not that outrageous of an idea.

of course noah had woodpeckers on the ark. He had two of every animal. one male and one female. We would not have woodpeckers today if not for them having ben on the ark.

Yes, but since the ark was made of oak, the woodpeckers didn't peck holes in the ark. Woodpeckers prefer to peck at softer woods.

I guess he did have woodpeckers on the ark, but I couldn't really say how he went about keeping them in it or keeping them from pecking up everything...

Of course he had Woodpeckers on the ark.
Gen 6:19-21 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.

Presumably, he would have kept them as far away from the hull as possible! A pair of woodpeckers could do some real damage over a period of forty days and nights.

I'm sure he did have woodpeckers. And I'm sure God would've made sure that they didn't peck at the wood.

Nope... just lots of wood, and lots of peckers!
What I want to know is what did he do about the single-sexed organisms? They must have been embarrased. Did he take two of them as well? You know, for companionship?
