Hahaha! That's what puppies do. I have had several different breeds of dogs over the years, and they all do it. They do grow out of it eventually with some gentle discouragement and attention redirection. He/she is just playing with you. (Just one thing... Be careful not to *yank* your pant leg out of his/her mouth, or you may break the little puppy teeth.)

This, in no way, means that your puppy is vicious. They play like this, just as they would have in the wild, to hone natural instincts. Like I said above, have a toy in your hand and distract them with it until they let go and then remove your leg. Haha! Works like a charm most of the time. Good luck!

Why?? Because you're not stopping him! Rotties are strong, dominant dogs that learn early whether you're the type of human who can be bossed around.

Begin motivational puppy training immediately. Don't listen to people who tell you that you have to wait until they are six months old - by then it's way too late. (Would you send your child off to his first day of school when he's 13??)

Keep him on a leash tied to your belt at all times. Every time he grabs your leg, pull up steadily on the leash until he's uncomfortable enough to let go. Then give him one of his toys and praise him. You have to teach him what he's allowed to grab and what he's not.

If he nips at the leash or your hands, don't pull back - he'll think it's a game. Instead, jam you hand or the leash deeper into his mouth until he starts to gag a little bit and spits them out. That way, HE'S choosing not to bite. Then again, give him his toy and praise him.

If he's in bed or on the couch with you, you're giving him the impression that he is your equal - you need to be the boss. Get his butt on the floor and keep it there. Don't do anything for him before he does something for you. If he wants to go out or get a treat, he has to sit and stay first. If he nudges you and demands to be petted, make him lie down before you do it. Don't let him jump up on you - use the leash to correct him and only pet him when all four feet are on the floor.

Absolutely no playing tug-of-war; it teaches him to challenge your authority and growl at you.

I'd also suggest reading some really good books on training. Try not to do it randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also! These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

I think they are just attracted to the movement and find it fun to hang on!

It's very endearing when it's doing it to someone else. I knew someone who had years of experience with pups and was really good with them and her way of coping with this behaviour was to wear knee high boots. The pups still grabbed her legs but at least it didn't hurt.

What you are supposed to do is distract the puppy with a tuggy type toy so that it plays with the toy when you walk and not with your leg. You praise it when it is playing with the toy and try to ignore it when it is trying to gnaw your leg!

By the time your patience has run out and you are down to your last pair of decent trousers the pup will have grown out of this and moved on to doing something else to keep you on your toes!

Give him toys to play with and try to stop the nipping at your trousers.....I used to have a dog that did that but he had some kind of herding in him but we curved it by using toys to distract him from doing this. Once he goes for your trousers, "sshh" him as the Dog Whisperer does (National Geographic on Friday nites.). Good dog training show. This noise usually distracts from whatever behavior they do but of course, it does not happen instantly, it takes days and/or weeks, so be patient, and kind, no hitting.....

That is your pups way of saying "Don't leave, I still want to play"
My 8 month old cocker spaniel did that when we first got her. To stop your pup from doing this. Just say "NO" really loud. I put my heal up and when she would bite my leg or pants she would get my heal in her mouth. BUT be careful, their teeth are extremly sharp at such a young age. Good luck, if you don't get this stopped now, it will continue.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/BjuMD

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

Your rottie is teething at this time and it would be good to have raw hides with the knots on the end to get him to chew on something different. It will take a while to get him to stop but be consistent every time he chews on something he's not suppose to pull him away and give him a raw hide or one off his toys. It does work.

Playing , play hunting and play fighting and teething... a bit as a puppy is natural...

Remember its a preditor... its also practicing to bite and kill...

And Rotts growe up to be very big, very powerful and often into being top dog so you need to train it.

Puppy with toy shaken in mouth is how it kills a rabbit ie neighbours cat.

Dogs are pack animals and you are the head dog! He just wants to play with you and have fun. Teetheing doesnt help much either. Spend ALOT of real quality time with your dog doing what HE wants to do!!!! You will have a wonderfull friend if you do this. Remember they do communicate, they just don't speak english!
