Why is it that when this country was founded it was founded on God, and now over 400 years later people who continue to keep it going (tax payers) dare to question and speak against it's foundation? Yeah, I know we have freedom of speech, but doesn't questioning God in anyway make an individual anti-American?

Because we as Americans gave people, as God did, free will.

Er... to which founding, exactly, are you referring? I kinda did some math here and if you count the founding of this country from 1776 or even '75, we're only talking 230 years. This is not an old nation, by any means.

So I just finished skimming over the Declaration of Independence and hey, I didn't find more than one mention of "God." No mention of "religion." But it sure does have a heck of a laundry list of grievances against the King of England.

If you're trying to argue that Puritans were persecuted out of England and to the other side of the ocean, I'd have to remind you that a lot of other folks were, too - including shiploads of criminals and slaves, many of whom were indentured or conscripted.

America is not the same thing as God. If you question God, it doesn't make you anti-American, nor does being anti-American made you the anti-Christ. Sheesh.

So I suppose my own question here is how do you answer a question when the basis of the question is false?

No it doesn't, dear heart. It makes on a questioning individual. Even though people have a different view from yours we still have the right to have it. Freedom of speech means the freedom to disagree. I would be highly unamused if someone told me I was un-American for questioning....and I would tell them so. Thank God (yes) we DO have that freedom of speech. Just remember others have it too.

This country was not founded on God or any religion. Please read the memoirs of those who were there when the Constitution and Declaration were being written and presented to the rest of the people. Also look at something called the Treaty of Tripoli which expressly states that our gov't is not based on the Christian Religion.
And, if God had a Nation, it would be Israel... not America.

Founded on God? Ah no it wasn't. The war started because of taxation without represantation. So it was MONEY not GOD that started the war of Independance. Please get your history correct.
More over the idea of God and what he wants changes very frequently (remember the Puritans?) life is about change friend and questioning is the start of change. If you want to live in a society which doesnt question God or how we should live, you can live with the Taliban, they hate change.

Nice twisting done there.

I told them it should have been written "Freedom FROM religion." But they wouldn't listen. They trusted common sense.... lol

We were founded on the principle of the separation of church and state. We are free to worship any way we please or not at all.
