If you had asked me this 10,000 years ago I would have said yes however the events of March 15 2006 changed my mind forever.
It all started when I was walking down by the river park, where the pedophiles hang out, when a hole opened up in the ground. I peeked in and was pulled down by a gust of wind. I fell for what must have been miles. As I got closer to the center I found that gravity had decreased and that I was able to fly. That's when I saw a light ahead. Looking over an underground ridge I saw an army of robots hard at work repairing the planets core.
One of them saw me and escorted me out. He gave me a twenty and told me that I didn't see anything. I told him I did and he gave me another twenty.
I went home that night and blew forty bucks on on-line poker.
The bottom line is no. Technology is hard at work helping to keep it all together.

I agree with many of the others. Humanity is what will destroy the Earth, but humanity also has the capability of pulling it all back together, too. Technology is only a tool or set of tools. It's how we use them that makes the difference. Look at nuclear energy, it can be used wisely, as a way of giving us the energy needed in our homes and workplaces, or it can be used in weapons to destroy those same places. The World Wide Web is a very good example of this. It can be used to bring us all together, sharing our differences and samenesses so we learn to be more tolerant of others, or it can be a tool for causing harm to others.

The poor choices of humans with this technology will destroy us. Possibly not the Earth, but many of the occupants of Earth, and the Human race.

I don't see technology destroying the earth but, I do see the dependence of the human race on technology. I believe we would be crippled if anything happened to our source of communication, electricity, energy, knowledge, independence, you name it... If for some reason there was a massive power outage on a global scale, the only countries to survive such a disaster would be what we call third world countries. Their way of life has not changed much in three hundred years and they would not be affected. Those of us that depend on technology to survive in our day to day living would find ourselves in a serious panic.

Technology will destroy us as a human race. As useful as it is, it is already influencing our behavior and decisions. Everything is electronic diminishing human interaction. We are becoming "more cold" as a race, not thinking of others or their feelings. Humans need touch and interaction for survival.
Because everything is so easy and instant access, even children are not growing up with strong work ethics and the ability to think and use their brains. The less we all care about each other, the less we will care about the earth and our surroundings.

I don't think technology is the risk as much as it's application is. Nuclear energy can be used for either a bomb or for an energy plant.
I think ultimately as we deplete resources such as oil we'll need to come up with alternate sources of fuel. I believe over time the face of the Earth will change through such things as pollution, depleting the rain forests and urbanization but the planet will most likely long outlast mankind itself.

I'd like to think that technology will end up saving the earth. With the way technology works today and keep improving day by day, that there will be a way to reverse all the damage done by us. I don't want to believe that all the futuristic movies are true. Where every city is burned and everything looks Gothic and unlivable. I like to keep my hopes up and believe things will turn around.

I don't think technology will destroy the earth, but it may destroy us. The problem is that our social evolution is not near keeping pace with our technological advancement.

Since Human Beings develop technology, yes I think it will eventually destroy the Earth as we know it. Look at the hole in the ozone - man-made! Look at water and air pollution - man-made! So my answer is YES!

I always love these. Destroy the earth? Are you serious?
The earth will do some sort of (natural) regurgitation which will send us back to the stone age. This has happened before.
I find it a bit conceited for us as a species to think we will " kill" a planet.
More likely the planet will kill us.
Look outside. The environment, given an even chance will literally eat you alive.
