First of all, I would go see a hematologist. Essential thrombocythemia is an elevated platelet count for which no cause can be determined. Blood platelets (thrombocytes) help form blood clots that control bleeding.

A normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter. In very large numbers, platelets may cause blockage (thrombosis) in blood vessels and bleeding problems. People diagnosed with thrombocythemia have platelet counts that exceed 600,000 platelets per microliter. It is abnormal and I would demand to be seen again and by a specialist. Hope this helps!

Platelet (thrombocyte) count. Platelets (thrombocytes) are the smallest type of blood cell. They play a major role in blood clotting. When bleeding occurs, the platelets swell, clump together, and form a sticky plug that helps stop the bleeding. If there are too few platelets, uncontrolled bleeding may be a problem. If there are too many platelets, there is a risk of a blood clot forming in a blood vessel. Also, platelets may be involved in hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).

Diabetics have a low platelet count. It's a little abnormal that the count increased in your case. It could be possible that the results were not accurate. I would go for a retest of the blood work.
