OK, I was a tech for several years and have forgotten more than I can remember, so please no answers like 'rt click start button > properties >...' already done... already set prog's so theuy should 'duck down' behind taskbar etc...

So here's the problem: task-bar hides but when cursor is moved to bottom of page to unhide/reveal it doesn't work... the only thing I can do is use the 'MicrOCrap' key to unhide it... This happens with all of my usual programs so I figure I must have a registry key that has been dropped or has been altered... no virus to date since this machine was built (Avast is the greatest!)... Any ideaz, this one is stumping me and I know it must be really simply stupid...

Some days I wish I had swam upstream 20 yrs ago and followed the apple :- /

Even when the task bar is hidden, it still occupies a single row of pixels at the bottom of the screen. I suspect you've inadvertently hidden it. So move the mouse to the bottom of the screen -- and possibly back up just a tiny bit - until you see an "up" arrow. That's really the top half of an up-down arrow, the bottom half of which is hidden. With that arrow showing, left-click and hold, and move the cursor up. It'll drag the task bar with it. Release after you've pulled it up as far as you want it to show.

I agree with your Apple comment.

Registry key to fix is complicated and not many people know how. Not even real technicians some times. So you might want to go at www.protonic.com they are real technicians and is free and fast.

On a side note... I am finally free of AOL junk on my computer including registry keys. Had to do it my self cause people are scared with registry keys some times even the technicians.

Are you sure you didnt lock the taskbar?

Make sure your taskbar is not locked in the settings.
Then try this:

1) Go to taskbar settings, uncheck the autohide option. Make sure the Lock your taskbar option is Unchecked.
2) Go back to desktop and make sure you see the taskbar.
3) Raise your taskbar to use two rows, so expand it vertical.
4) Go back to taskbar settings, check the autohide option.
5) Go back to desktop and check if autohide works.
6) If it works, then set the taskbar to its original row display.

Let me know if that works or not.

You already know how to open taskbar properties. just open by rightclicking on taskbar and choose properties
then tick Keep the taskbar on top of other windows.
it will work.
