THE REFORMATION

2006-06-14 05:30:04 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 8 0

When Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the church in Wittenberg, he began the Reformation which ultimately led to Protestantism. Although Martin Luther did rail against the sale of indulgences (it was wrong, he said, to make money off of other people's sins), he maintained that people could go directly to God to confess and be forgiven, and that priests were not necessary. Thus began the split from Catholicism.

Cheers, hope this helps. -- K

Martin Luther did not begin the movement, but was just one of many who were given more attention. It was the protestant reformation that he was involved in, but it began before he was born.

The reason for the reformation was to promote the truth of God's word and to expose the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church.

The first religion formed from Luther was called the Protestant Reformation eventually becoming the Lutherans and the Puritans. The Puritan's are the ones who traveled to the United States by the Mayflower.

The Reformation of the Church began. Martin Luther away from the corrupted Catholic Church to form the Luthern sect of Protestants. The Catholic Church, for centuries, had diverted itself from the actual teachings of Christ and the Apostles. The Church was no longer the Church as designed and intended by Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church continues in that corruption.

This is a good synopsis of the Reformation:

Luther didn't actually begin the Protestant Reformation, but his attacks on Church activities such as the sale of indulgences, sort of gave it a jumpstart. Incidentally, of Luther's complaints (his 95 theses), the Catholic Church has accepted all of them.

The Protestant religion.
Of course, only Protestant's give money to Evangelists on a regular basis, which speaks volumes about their general intelligence. Tell me, how many Jewish or Catholic Evangelist's are out there piking for dollars? Makes one wonder.
