sometimes they are sent for diagnosis, sometimes they are incinerated. I'm thinking hospitals that have teaching colleges attached may even use them for dissection lessons.

there taken away to a incinerator off site and destroyed .i know from personal knowledge a platoon mate got his arm so badly mangled in a i.e.d explosion that had to take off above the elbow .

I imagine they're sent to some kind of lab for testing.
When they took my tonsils out they sent those to a lab.
