The answer is in Romans 10:4--Christ fulfilled the law! We are not under the law. It is worthy of note that the only commandment Christ did not quote seemed to be the sabbath one. And He seemed to "break" it all the time, as he was accused by the Pharisees of doing. The principle of a day of rest is fine and should be adhered to, but as Jesus said "the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath." Also, the first-century church not only met on the first day of the week, but every day as well! (Acts 2:41)

The sabbath has not been changed-it is Saturday. Sunday is the first day of the week-the day Jesus rose from the grave-that's the day Christians worship. Christians are not Jews. Don't get them mixed up. Yes, some Jews became Christians-they worship on two days-no problem.

It is true that Jesus and His disciples both kept and taught the seventh-day sabbath. It was changed however by the Catholic church. They do not deny this, in fact they taught it as their MARK! Ever heard of The Mark of the Beast? It all began in about 338 ad. with power hungry men of the Church of Rome going to Constantine and flattering him into making a law for Sunday worship. This was the first Sunday law. Sunday was and is the pagan day of worship. Constantine, a nominal christian at best, never gave up his worship of the sun. The church used that law to further its own ends. When the last Emperor of Western Rome came up missing the pope stepped into the title, and power of the Emperor of Rome. It is one of his 3 crowns that he has. 666 that is him. One of his titles is Vicorus Fili Dei = 666 in the old Latin language. Another title is God on Earth. Blaspheme!!! Read the source and be amazed.

The sabbath was/is the seventh day of the week. This was the command unter the Law of Moses (Old Testament). We are now under the law of Christ (New Testament). Jesus nailed the old law to the cross (Colossians 2:14) and so now no one can judge us based on keeping the sabbath (Col. 2:16).
Christians today meet on the first day of the week because that is the day Jesus rose from the dead (Mark 16:1-2), it is the day the church was established (Acts 2) (Pentecost was always on the first day of the week.), and the early church met on the first day of the week to partake of the Lord's supper (Acts 20:7) and to give (1 Corinthians 16:2).

When Emperor Constantine became a Christian, he made it the official religion of his empire, but most people in his empire worshiped the sun god on, guess what day?...Sunday! and so he changed the day of worship so it would seem that all of his people worshiped God. so in my perspective it wasn't really changed, and so i still go to church on Saturday. However, Jesus rose on the first day of the week (Sunday) and so Constantine used that as almost an "excuse" to change the holy day to Sunday. This was, of course, also for civic reasons. He would have to change the calender, and would have to construct temples etc in other spot in order for the sun to pass through on the floor on Saturday, which was common for Roman temples. Lastly, many early Christians worshipped on Sunday to allow the Jews to continue to worship at the temple on sabbath, as Christians consider the actual DAY you worship less important than actually WORSHIPING. (Many small towns/ villages could only afford one "place of worship" that was shared by the two dominant faiths, just like today my church is rented out to babtists on Sunday when we are not worshipping)

Here is why we now typically celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday:
The Resurrection:
Luke 24:1 "On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb."
The tradition:
Acts 20:7 "On the first day of the week we came together to break bread."
The Spiritual reality:
Colossians 2:16 "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."
Jesus is "Lord of the Sabbath". He has kept this command perfectly on our behalf...legalistic observance is done. We live in Christian liberty, by the guidance of the Spirit.
God said, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice." (Hosea 6:6). Compliance with "rules" means nothing. We walk by faith, trusting in God's grace.

I always wondered the same thing. I feel like it was done because of societal covenience. Whenever they convened with that treaty in the 1200's or whatever, high officials in the Catholic church "edited" the Christian relgion. But yea you're right the bible did say we were supposed to rest on the 7th day and the 7th day of the week is Sat not Sun.
