They're not in bankruptcy at the moment, if that's what you mean. It's a small second-tier airline that has potential. It's not any less safe than the "big six" airlines.

I've never flown them, but I would if they serviced any of the city pairs I travel between.

I had never heard of Spirit Airlines until I transferred out to Las Vegas with Delta. We handled their operation and everyone I ever came in contact with from the crew to the managers were always very pleasant. They have been doing really well and have expanded operation into the Caribbean. Although they nolonger from to Atlantic City from Detroit, it is a really good discount airline if you can ever get the fare sales when you need to fly. They have an Airbus fleet, which is not my favorite aircraft, but they always look nice. By far, they are smaller compared to major US carriers and less complex. I always loved working those flights, their system was antiquated for checkin, but it was an easy flight to work. I have no problem giving them a good recommendation as being someone from the industry.

My family has used them since they began flights between Atlantic City and Fort Lauderdale without any crashes. Knock on wood...

They are a privately held company so their financial are not made public. Pay using your credit card and you should be protected against any airline failure. Are any airlines sure of staying in business nowadays? IMHO, no.
