No, we only talked about the US because we are so full of ourselves!!

Actually, your history teacher is probably smart...since they know that history repeats itself, why not study America and learn all of the STUPID things not to do!!

I learned basics about Canada when I was in elementary school. Middle school and early high school only dealt with Canada when we were talking about geography or the US's dealings with Canada (invasions, attempted invasions, etc). My senior year of high school I took a History of the Americas IB course in which we did discuss the government and progressivism in Canada.

It does seem odd that your teacher would discuss Canada so extensively unless you are located in southern Canada (and it would still be a bit confusing) or if many of your school's graduates eventually move to the States.

I was lucky in that in my High School we had the option of studying American or Canadian history. I took the option of studying Canadian history. Our history is not as "exciting" as American history but you really learn who we are and why we are the way we are.

We didn't have a wild west for example because we had a quasi military - police force out there first before we settled the west. Communities grew up around the NWMP forts. Communications and travel was key for our governments in the early years. We learned from the American Civil War that easy travel and good communications was key to holding a country together.

No. We learn about countries that are farther liek India, China, and other countries like that. Most Americans already know so much about Canada, so what's the point of teaching it?

no, they must not. They can't even pronounce our provinces right. it is so stupid that we spend so much time learning about them and they don't even take the time to learn about us(yes I said about, NOT aboot). I have met enough yankees to know that they know nothing about us. They would rather learn about china, where they kill innocent little girls and are overpopulated than learn about our beautiful country with nothing to complain about. They think that we live in igloos and they don't even know what a toque is. And they think that Saskatchewan is pronounced sask-a-chee-one! It is sass-catch-chew-one!! Okay i am getting pissed off. I am going to write the education board and put a halt to learning about the states until they start to learn about us. That's it!!!
