well, Waco is in the center of the "Bible belt" a very conservative area of Texas. Pres. Bush bought a ranch near there to give you an idea. Baylor Univ. is there, which is affiliated with the Southern Baptist church (very traditional, very conservative).

The weather is pretty warm (over 90 degrees F) at least for 8 months of the year. It rarely snows, but in winter the temp can drop from 75F to 35F in 2-3 hrs when a cold front (called a "Norther") blows in. Rain & hail are common.

On the other hand, you can buy a very nice house with a large garden quite reasonably, compared with many other places in the US. There is a lake nearby for boating & fishing.

People are generally friendly & provided you do not provoke them with an unusual public lifestyle (i.e, holding loud outdoor drinking parties, are overtly gay or advocating abortion) you'll likely fit in OK.

Its a fairly short drive (by Texas standards) to Austin if you need some culture or a curry or real night life.

It's a small city - about 100K when Baylor is in session. A large Baptist population. Not much to do after dark. All in all, if you like a slow, quiet town, it's great.

On the other hand, DFW and Austin are only an hour and a half drive away. That's only 30min more than my daily in town commute here in Dallas!
