There are some dentists nowadays that put their patients under anesthesia even for regular check ups and cleanings. You should look into it in your area, they work especially for people like yourself.

Amy, I'm the same way, Eventually your teeth are going to be in real bad shape if don't figure out how to get over your fear. The dentist suggested I take Valium an hour before my appointment so I took two a "half hour" before my appointment. Be very careful if you're driving and you do this. It really helped me although I still experienced my fear. I can tell you after a few visits my fear started to go away but, I always made sure I had medication to help with my anxiety. You can do it!

We have patients the same way. They throw up, come in crying, and are sleep deprived when they first enter the office. Even after 1 year of treatment they still cry upon entering and driving to the appointment. There is hope, while they still cry, they do come in and work is getting done. Each time is a little better. These days the patient can sleep, does not throw up. She need less time and attention to get started.

You need to find a dentist who will work with you. Not medicate the hell out of you. If you do it that way you'll never overcome your fear.

I do too, you just have to suck it up and go or sit in pain, I always have anxiety attacks up to the point that the dentist actually starts working on me I get a little on edge while he's doing his thing is squeeze my hands until I can't feel them anymore and keep telling myself is once this is over I'll feel better physically not financially.

Can you ask a friend or family member to go with you for the moral support? I also had a phobia of dentists, but it got to the point where my pain was stronger than my fear. I highly suggest you have the nitrious (laughing gas). It really relaxes you, and you just don't care anymore.

Ok first of all you have to work yourself up to it. look at your left hand, in the webbing between thumb and first finger you take the thumb and first finger of the right hand, grab the webbing about the first knuckle of the the thumb first finger underneath squeeze firmly and regulate your breathing, walk in through the door book in sit down and do it again. When you get into the dentist TELL HIM/HER you are really scared, they will not laugh at you they will help you. I know British dentists are rushed but they are still professional. Good luck

i used to be the same, then i had a job in a dentist for about 6 months, i then realised its not really all that bad, once u are in ,you will get a injection so you wont feel any pain.
you could also try a hypnotist to see if that can get u over your fear.
