are you thinking about leaving them behind?
If so, 17 hours away probably isn't far enough. Move further.
Just kidding, buy a portable DVD player and some of their favorite shows/movies. Stop 3 or 4 times during the trip, and be glad that you only have to do it once.

Well, I have 14 year old twins and I am still trying to entertain them in the car! Asking anyone to sit in a chair and be strapped in for 17 hours is crazy. Asking 11 month old kids to do it is unbearable! Making frequent stops where the kids can get out is the only way to do it. I would try to make sure some of the travel is overnight. When the kids get cranky then stop and rest. Alot of people would hate this next part, but if you are on the open road and the weather is clear and there is little traffic then we used to fold down a row of seats in my van and let the kids play in a portable play pen inside. Iknow they are supposed to be strapped in their seats and I totally agree, I am just realistic. If thraffic or weather got bad then we stopped or they went back in;

buy a DVD player, and take along kids movies, like a few of their favorites,you know the portable playes they have like at Walmart Have snacks and drinks, some of their favorite toys there too, some really great toys are those books with the sounds, where they can push the buttons,make sure all of this is easily accessible. frequent stops, and don't rush things, remember they are young, pace the trip. Stop at motels if you can afford it, also another thing you could do is make the trip longer and stop at Zoo's and other things along the way, do things to make their VERY young minds focus on other things. Let them get out and stretch their little legs too along the way. If you can don't keep them in the vehicle for over two hours without stopping for atleast half an hour and letting them"run" Work with them on their talking by pointing out everything you see along the way, like semi trucks, and yellow cars, big buses ectra. Play "I spy" and spy everything with them. remember tylenol for you and for them. Don't forget to have the air conditioner renergized, because if you don't they could get VERY hot and VERY cranky.

I would say movies Cd's with songs on it or make most of the drive at night. During the day point things out to them. The animals other cars things passing by. Stop frequently. Bring their favorite snacks and drinks.

I travel a lot with a two year boy, and I found that a portable dvd player is a life saver. You can get a cheap one at best buy. Good Luck!

fly,...................... if youcan't fly you need to be able to stop and let them have some play time and some cuddling time. I'd try to stop at a motel because they'll get sore in their car seats for that long, and probably a little sick from trying to eat and rest in a moving vehicle. Travelling while they are asleep helps, but then you will be tired when they really need you to be calm and patient.

Honestly, give them formula/milk/food. The motion of the car along with being full should help them sleep. Make frequent stops as well to break the monotony for them (unless they are sleeping then get as many miles in as you can).

I'll suggest the same thing my parents did for us kids when we went on vacation to Coneticut from Texas....beforehand, my dad took us to Toys R Us, and we were able to pick any toy we wanted, and he bought it, and put it away, and we weren't allowed to play with them until we started on the road. It kept us occupied the entire way there and back!

I think the best thing to do is not frive straight throw. if you can afford it stop over night and stuff, if you can try and only drive at night so they can run around, and hopefully you arent taking the drive all my yourself.
