How do you get rid of ringworm? Ive been taking the cream I was prescriped and it seems to only be getting worse.

I've been putting my medicine cream on for about four days and it started to get better and now is just getting worse. It itches still, just not as much as before. Should I put a band-aid on it because I've heard to and not to...but on one website it said they thrive in moisture so I thought a band-aid would have more moisture and the air would just dry it out....I dont know...

If you've tried Blue Star Ointment or other creams that are similar without the ringworm getting any better, I would contact my Dr. Good luck....ringworm is no fun!

Repost this question with a little more info: How long have you had ringworm? How long have you been applying Lamisl? Where is it located on your body? Are you bathing AT LEAST twice a day?

Anyway, you need to use the Lamisl for easily 2-3 weeks. If you saw a doctor about this, I'm guessing they knew what they were doing when they wrote the prescription. Otherwise you might want to see a dermatogist if you haven't done so already.

If you're wrestling or doing a mat sport, you might want to stop that until it goes away- it's really contageous in case you don't know. Also, the mats themselves may be really dirty and causing your ringworm to get worse.

Treatment of Ringworm 1. If infection is suspected, it is important to see a doctor. 2. Get the right medicine. Ringworm on the scalp requires a prescription oral anti fungal medication. Ringworm on the feet and body may be treatable with over-the-counter creams containing anti fungal ingredients (such as those used to treat athlete's foot or jock itch--eg., clotrimazole). Ringworm is a fungus that is in small, spreading rings (thus fungicides work. 3. If no improvement, seek further medical advice. If following the directions on the product yields no improvement after the usual 2-4 weeks, go to a dermatologist.

You need to use the cream for the full period, either 7 or 10 days. Wash the area with a clean washcloth before each application of the cream, then throw the washcloth into the laundry. Do not use it again on a different location. Remember to cover the ringworm area with a bandage large enough to cover the area completely. Don't go swimming or into a sauna or a steamroom while the ringworm is still red and itchy.

If the 'script cream doesn't work after the total period of time, try Lamisil cream once a day for one week. Follow all the same steps as above. If it reoccurs, you need to start all over again with the Lamisil.

It's pretty hard to get rid of. I was using tea tree oil ... no luck. Neem oil, better but still not enough. I took apple cider vinegar, put hydrogen peroxide on it, stopped using soaps with petroleum, no deoderant, and all manner of other things which I thought would help. I did all kinds of research. I found that it's basically the same thing as candida (which would mean the candida diet might help). However, I had zero sweet tooth while I had it. Eventually I just stopped bothering with it at all ..... and guess what? It disappeared! very, very weird. I don't know if I just wasn't regular or disciplined enough with the treatments I was doing, or if they were just aggravating it enough to upset it but weren't strong enough to kill it, or what the deal was, but sometimes it's just better to just let it be. I've never tried prescription drugs, only natural cures/remedies.

Scratch it! j/k

Topical antifungal drugs containing miconazole and clotrimazole, available by prescription or over the counter, are used to clear up the infection. According to Living Well on a Shoestring by the editors of Yankee Magazine, a folk remedy for ringworm is cider vinegarwater. Another alternative is tea tree oil. Fungal infections may take a while to clear up.

Myself and my brothers all had ringworm many years ago when we were young (50 years ago). My mom tried everything and two of us were cured. My older brother could not get rid of his. One day, an old country woman told mom that the only cure (in those days) was 'bluebutter' from the Chemist. Mom asked for and got some, used it and it was cured within days. It was only after wards she found out it was an old cure for venereal disease.
