My mini schnauzer is a doll, but when we go out to places where there are alot of people or dogs, she becomes really hyper, excited and disobedient. Its almost like when she gets excited or distracted she forgets everything I ever taught her, help!!!

Your dog needs socialization and training. This is perhaps a bigger deal than you think.

You say you trained her, but she doesn't listen. That means she isn't trained in a way that has her obeying your command each and every time. Positive reinforcement training is the way to go - you want to at least get a reliable "Sit" from her. You can either take her to a local dog training facility and sign up for a Basic Manners type of class, or you can train her yourself.

But you also must not let her be the top dog in your home. If she sleeps on your bed, jumps on your furniture, and basically does whatever she wants - she's top dog. She isn't going to listen to you if she doesn't think you are an authority figure. For a well-behaved dog, the NILIF philosophy works well.

Nothing in Life Is Free for a dog. They must work for it.

Once you've established control over your dog in your home, you need to take her out in public and make her "Sit" each time she gets anxious or excited. Reward with food - positive reinforcement is the way to go. Your dog needs to learn that when she sees other people or dogs, she needs to sit and you will reward her.

This will take time, so be patient and you will be rewarded with a better-behaved dog in the long run.

Age has something to do with that, puppies can be easily distracted. Also, the breed is a bit on the hyper side too.
Make sure you get down to her level, put her face in your hands and speak into her face calmly with your commands and see if that helps. Or, have a "time out", take her aside and with your leash, make her sit and stay. Best to have hyper ones on a short leash too, you can control them better.

You can try some natural remedys, incl. Bachs Five Flower Formula, or you can ask your vet about getting a seditive, for when times are really bad, it is called Acepromazine, and you always start with the lowest dose, ie. half a tablet, and move up if needed. My dog, when she is on ace, just needs a little bit, otherwise she is down and out ofr the day!

Good luck

Denise I can't answer your question, but my dog does the same thing my dog just turned 1year, she's a great dog but when she does that I get so upset because she doesn't listen to me either. My dog is a Puggle (half Pug And half Beagle). So if you get any advice could you please pass it on to me. Thanks Lorenzo
