I think the reason is two-fold:
1) Christians are obsessed with death. Christianity has to be one of the most morbid religions ever. Think about it - their symbol is the torture device their founder was murdered upon. Doesn't that seem a bit bizarre? There is also the question of cannibalism as to Jesus' command that they eat his body and drink his blood. I think catholics are probably the most morbid of the christian sects. (Though it is debatable.) Search the net and check out pictures of Catholic relics. See link below to see St. Catherine's mummy.
2) Christians are obsessed with the idea that their belief system is correct and that everyone else is completely wrong. If there were a rapture this would justify their flawed belief system. They hate this world because not everyone thinks the way they do. (And just see how many people try to convince you to think their way when they answer this.) The only option they see is a) make everyone convert (which even they know isn't going to happen) or b) have god kill off all the non-believers and leave all the 'just and righteous' types to rule the world (or heaven, which ever their little fantasy involves.)
There is something seriously wrong with a belief system that hates all other belief systems and wants to bring about the end the world. By my definition, I would say that it's a cult.

In reality, the word rapture is not in the bible. But the idea is the second coming of Jesus and that I can honestly say I look forward to and want it to come quickly. Unlike those you talk about, I am not afraid to die and would welcome it if that is what I need to do to be sure to be there in Heaven. many are hypocrits and they will not get to Heaven unless they turn around and really give their hearts to God fully. If you have done that, why should you fear death? It is only a sleep that Jesus will wake you up from at the last trump and will take you back to Heaven with Him then. Not like a dripping faucet as most will tell you but all at once. 1 Thess. 4:16-17. Those that say they can't wait for it should be telling others about the happy event rather than worrying about their lives being taken from them as the one to fear is God rather than man as God can destroy both soul and body in Hell. That means total death, destruction, no more life. It does not mean eternity in Hell fire as you would have to be alive for that and without Christ you have no life but only death. The wages of sin is DEATH, not eternal life in Hell as is preached by most these days.

There is a fundamental difference between "rapture" and death. In the first case, it is the final judgement of all souls on earth. The belief is there is no running from it, and if you are judged and saved, then you can move on to better things. Meanwhile, if it's not the rapture, and you can save your life while turning the other cheek, it is your duty to do so. It is understod that our lives are a miracle given by the Lord, and it is not our place to discard that gift. That is why suicide is so frowned upon.
The real hipocracy would come in the form of christians who believe they can do and say as they please, as long as they "vocally accept Jesus Christ as their savior." It's the ultimate get out of jail free card. No need to live and learn and accept other people or other beliefs. Make all the mistakes you please, just remember the secret pass phrase and you're home free!

Personally (wouldn't presume to speak for all), I truly look forward to my final home in heaven. The eternal rest in paradise will make every little thing endured here on earth seem insignificant & there are those who have gone before me I long to see again. That said, I do not feel my work is done here. I have 2 small kids and I do not wish to leave just yet for their sakes. Also, I really want to see them grow up & would love to have grandchildren one day (MANY years from now). As a human, I feel torn between both worlds, and would probably put up a good fight to stay alive. Does that make me a hypocrite? I don't believe so.

The rapture is not actually dying. It is when Jesus comes back to Earth and gathers His believers and takes them home. I think just about everyone is scared of death, even if the deny it. But even in certain deaths, Christians should be willing to die for God... So in some cases I agree that some Christians are hypocrits, but not all at all.

Because when the rapture occurs, we will be forevermore with the Lord. And I will:
(1) have no more migraine headaches
(2) never be exhausted again
(3) have a body that will never age or have aches and pains
(4) never have to deal with painful past memories that pop up
etc. etc.
That being said, I do not think about the rapture constantly. While I am on this earth, I have a purpose, and I desire to be the Lord's servant.
But there are a few reasons, for me at least. :)

Well, I almost died.. Wife brought me back from choking on some desert...But, I was OUT!
And I would like to see the rapture come...because when it comes, those who are still alive will be taken up in the clouds in a different form. They will know life with out death. Those who are in the ground, burried or what ever, will be taken up and given new bodies.
No one wants to die, even I didnt when I got my pacemakers 12 years ago. Of course, I wasnt saved then, so the LORD had plans for me to "get Saved", and I am glad HE did!.
Everyone will always "fight for life", its in our genes, the survival syndrom...
I wish you well..
Jesse

In some ways, life on this planet is hellish. The rapture promises to bring an end to suffering. As for fighting death to stay alive, I would fight it too so that I could finish raising my toddler daughter. She could live without me, but I wouldn't want her to have to.

Rapture means:
1. The state of being transported by a lofty emotion; ecstasy.
2. An expression of ecstatic feeling. Often used in the plural.
3. The transporting of a person from one place to another, especially to heaven.
That sounds great to me!!

the first time the earth is harvested they get rid of the believers and poor out Gods wrath on earth. Then the angles carry jointly each and each of the unrighteous and forged them into hell and the believers live to inform the tale with christ on a clean heaven and a clean earth. 1thes 4:13-18 Brothers and sisters, we do not choose you to be uninformed about those who sleep in lack of existence, so that you do not grieve like some thing of mankind, who've no wish. For we trust that Jesus died and rose back, and so we trust that God will carry with Jesus those who've fallen asleep in him. in accordance to the Lord’s word, we allow you to keep in mind that we who're nevertheless alive, who're left till the arriving of the Lord, will really no longer precede those who've fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a noisy command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the useless in Christ will upward push first. After that, we who're nevertheless alive and are left will be stuck up jointly with them in the clouds to satisfy the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord perpetually. therefore inspire one yet another with those words.
