Warts develop when a virus particle infects traumatized skin. The virus that causes warts to form belongs to a family of viruses called human papilloma virus or HPV. Certain professions, e.g. meat handlers are more prone to develop warts because of their exposure to infected meat. Viruses can also be passed on from person to person. After initial contact with the virus, it can take several months for a wart lesion to appear

Warts are caused by a virus that enters your skin cells and takes over the machinery used to do their thing and produce more cells. But the virus commandeers the cellular machinery to make more viruses until the cell bursts from having too many and then those viruses go off and infect more of your cells and other people's if they are close enough. The wart that forms is your body's reaction to all the unwanted reactions going on in your skin, so everything gets walled off. If you have a wart, there are many treatment options you can find over-the-counter. Ask your local pharmacist.

unlike most people think warts are not a fungus but a virus in the blood streamWarts are skin growths that are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 60 kinds of HPV, some of which tend to cause warts on the skin. HPV stimulates quick growth of cells on the skin's outer layer. In most cases, common warts appear on the fingers, near the fingernails, or on the hands. Certain types of HPV can also cause warts to appear in the genital area.
Warts are caused through direct contact with HPV, which is contagious. HPV may spread by person-to-person contact or through direct contact with an object used by a person with the virus. The virus that causes warts also can spread to other places on the body of the person with warts.

I know it's a virus
The human papilloma virus (HPV) causes several different types of warts, which are the most common type of skin infection. In some cases, the HPV virus dies within 1 or 2 years, and warts simply disappear. Podiatrists may recommend having plantar warts removed because they often are irritating and painful.
These warts are not always tied to STD's.

A wart is generally a small, rough, cauliflower-like growth, typically on hands and feet. Warts are common, and are caused by a viral infection, specifically by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Some scientists believe they are also caused by stress. They typically disappear after a few months but can last for years and can recur. A few Papilloma viruses are known to cause cancer. Certain types of warts, depending on location and cause, can be contagious from region to region, but are not transferable between species.

Warts are a type of infection caused by viruses in the human papillomavirus (HPV) family. There are more than 100 types of HPV viruses. Warts can grow on all parts of your body. They can grow on your skin, on the inside of your mouth, on your genitals and on your rectal area. Some types of HPV tend to cause warts on the skin, while other HPV types tend to cause warts on the genitals and rectal area. Some people are more naturally resistant to the HPV viruses and don't seem to get warts as easily as other people.

There are two kinds of warts. One is verruca vulgaris, commonly seen in hands and the other venereal warts/genital warts(STD). Both warts are caused by viruses.

It's a virus. According to legend frogs would give you warts.
As a little kid i loved frogs and played with them a lot, and yes, i had warts. I stopped playing with them, and now i no longer get them. So i guess the legend is true. Maybe the frogs carry the virus.

Bacteria from not frequently washing your hands. They are contagious too. I had a wart when I was about 15 or 16. None of my friends had them, but a girl in one of my classes had them and I think I got them from her.
