i've worked at an ice cream store for almost 9 months (which was stupid because i am a compulsive overeater and i worked during winter when nobody comes and we can eat as much as we want so i have) and i have eaten and INCREDIBLE and absolutly disgusting amount of ice cream in that time (i worked 5 days a week all winter)... also i am a recovered bulimic (i was pretty bad) and even though i'm past that, i'm afraid that i've ruined my body because i look and seem normal but it isn't responding normaly when i try and loose weight in a healthy way, or even respond to just exercising or anything!!!! have i totally ruined my body? i'm not eating ice cream as much.. i'm trying to stop.. has the ice cream ruined my already fragile system? i don't know what to do....

You need to get your life back on track through proper eating and exercise. You've taken it from one extreme to another. For once try giving your body the balance that it needs.
Be your own trainer and nutritionist, the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that’s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol if that applies. Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren't are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can’t live without your one treat a day, don’t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that’s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you’ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
As for exercise, lots of cardio. Find something you like. If you have never exercised much before, start with walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. Move on to different terrains that include hills and increase the time spent. After a week or two, try jogging the route. No matter what find an activity you enjoy. Walking to jogging is just an example, try hiking, rollerblading, biking. Once you get into a regular routine, if your not happy with the level of difficulty, try signing up with a gym. Spinning, pilates or kickboxing classes are great. It will also introduce you to working with weights. Talk to a trainer for instruction before using any weights. A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture. There are hundreds of exercises you can use it for for your entire body. I can give you some ideas if you want, just email me. Hi, Heather.
I used to be bulimic, too.
I know what it is like when you cannot eat certain foods without feeling guilty ( so guilty, that you'd rather throw up).
And I also know what it's like to then let all your fears go - because you are terribly tired of that stress, and eat whatever and whenever and how much you want. It is true that bulimics take it to extremes.
I think you know yourself well enough to let yourself heal you.
I go from one extreme point to another. But I know that I need to learn how to balance things in my life and also - how to accept things.
Regarding your question: I do not believe that eating a specific food would ruin your body, rather it would have to be the unhealthy abuse ( e.i. is self-induced vomiting).
I know from my experience that your body needs time to recover ( depending on how long you had been bulimic). So, just hang in there and let your body become it's normal self.
Also, I know that I tend to chose one type of food or a food item and stick to it for quiet a long time. Eg., I've been eating nuts everyday for months now. First I was worried but now I just let it go. I know I like to eat and I think that nuts are a much better choice that some other foods. So, I'd say, maybe you need to pick an item that is more nutritious and healthy than ice cream. Like, maybe, apples - I ate them all winter in ridiculous amounts.
What I am saying is you know yourself and somethings are just the way they are, some traits of character might never change, so use them to your advantage ( or at least minimize possible damage).
I sincerely hope you feel better.
Best Regards,
Marina.

Heather...the fact that you're concerned about this...I truly believe you'll successfully overcome this! Listen and listen very good....get in touch with the fighter in you. Go seek out info, perhaps on the internet but preferrably with a professional trainer...focus on "body sculpting". It's a form a weight trainning that doesn't have to be so difficult. The first few weeks may be the toughest becuase at first it will be your mind you will be fighting with. You'll begin to hear that nagging voice inside saying "this is difficult, i may as well give up, this sucks, i hate this, this is useless...etc"....but when you fight this voice, you'll begin to be more and more disciplined and YOU WILL see results after just one month!!! At this point...you need to get into "Self affirmations"....say to yourself "Wow!, I'm doing it, I'm losing weight! the body I've always wanted is now taking form!"
Self-affirmations are very very important!!!! Before you know it, more and more positive voices in your mind will take over the negative ones and as a result your body will follow!!! This will work, my friend. This may be one of your last chances, so take on this excellent battle against yourself..it will be worth it!!!
Again...focus on "Body sculpting"....worry about aerobics and cardio later, once your body starts to take the shape you seek.
More people believe in you than you can ever imagine....therefore, seek out a support group too. When you're fighting this personal battle, it'll feel good to know you have support with others that can relate and share motivation with you.
Good luck!!!
Dave

The human body is a resilient machine. You just need to focus on treating your body better. Increasing your vitamin intake, exercising and eating healthier. Hopefully, after some time and effort on your part, your body will make a full recovery. Good luck

No, I believe you've not damaged anything. Sometimes you have to try different measures to get your body to react and lose weight. Ask yourself if you are being strict with your diet and are you exercising with any intensity to help burn those calories. Your body doesn't always respond to the same diets and shocking your system can really help.
