Is it ok to where a white dress to a friend's wedding if the majority of the dress is covered with a colorful pattern? I'm planning my wedding and also, and this dress is not something that would bother me if I was the bride. But do you think its ok?

No, it is impolite to wear white to a traditional, Western wedding. That is the colour traditionally reserved for the bride and nothing should detract from her special day. Your dress sounds totally ok and lovely as it is not predominantly white.

In the same vein it is incorrect to wear black to a wedding, unless you wish the couple bad luck or ill-will.

I think that the dress is still too white, or has too much white in it. You should just find a different dress to wear. Don't ask the bride, she doesn't have time to answer your question. It is out of etiquette no matter what she thinks anyway. It's not only the bride that you would have to ask, what about the mother of the bride, mother of the groom, MOH, and all the bridesmaids. They get an opinion too. Most of the older guests at the wedding would just think you were being tacky.

Just find another dress.

A dress almost completely covered by print, yes. *That* dress - no. Don't bother the bride with something so trivial - just find another dress that doesn't broach that line. Another prob is that that the dress is strapless - if the wedding is in a Church, it's not appropriate without a sweater or a wrap. But again, I can't imagine that with all the dresses available out there that you wouldn't be able to find something in a non-white color.

Good luck in your search. : )

You'd have to discuss it with the bride but traditionally no one is suppose to wear any kind of white except for the bride, if she is wearing that color. It might all depend on just how much white you are showing in your outfit but to cause less of an issue go without the white.

Yes, as long as it doesn't resemble a wedding gown in anyway. The idea is not to take away from the bride. I looked at your dress and it is perfectly appropriate!!
It is also lovely.
Have fun!

ONLY the bride wears white, but your dress is not white, so you're fine... a print on a white background doesn't count as a white dress.

I think the dress your talking about would be fine. It has a lot of color in it. If it was plain white, I would have to say no but this dress is mostly colored.

As long as there's a colorful pattern on it I would think it would be fine. An all-white dress with no color at all is what should be avoided.

If it is almost all covered with a floral or colorful pattern then that is probably the focus of the dress. so it is probably fine. but if you have any doubt then I would find something else to wear.

Probably not a good idea especially if your wedding is soon. She may see it as an attempt to take attention from her. Pretty dress though.
