well if your in your early 20's only then I suggest Hoboken NJ though you may as well pay the rents in manhattan if you are going to live in Hoboken. Try maybe Rutherford or Lyndhurst NJ

I think Albuquerque, NM would be nice... and San Diego, CA would be even better. Sorry, but I can't think of ANY place near NYC that would be a nice place to live.

NYC is like living in the GLC with the combined populations of Coventry and Birmingham tossed in for good measure and then having the garbage collectors go on strike.

Hoboken New Jersey is right across the river from NYC. It's got great views of the city, a nice riverfront park, good restaurants, shopping, and clubs, and a variety of housing choices. I moved of the area and I really miss it!

White Plains is about 35 minutes north by train (metro-north). It's a very nice place, and it's a city on the rise. The rent is about $1400 per month for a one bedroom, and it's fairly safe neighborhood.

in case you do not opt to stay in the city (ny), you could continuously discover an area in ny, ny is a more desirable residentual area yet nevertheless has branch shops, retaurants and paying for with more desirable bushes, water fronts and more desirable parks. the 2d advice is to discover an area upstate or in the route of the north of ny city like New Rochelle, Yonkers or Mount Vernon, though thechronic will be longer through some hours, depending the position you p.c... or you could analyze aspects in New Jersey and Staten Island, yet you would could pay the $8 or $11 toll. yet there are impressive tranquil aspects with bushes, parks and lakes in Brooklyn and Queens.

New Jersey- I know a lot of people who commute an hour EACH WAY to work to get to mid-town Manhattan. It's much cheaper. It's just too expensive to live in NY. I got the hell out of there and moved to LA. I'm done being cold!
