Not sure about the name change. I always thought it was the same, Just different in other places around the world. I like some of the answers you got so far.Like this one:Lucifer means light, Lucifer was the name of the most beautiful archangel in heaven, Lucifer was the bright and morning star who fell from grace trying to get power for himself and became Satan,Lucifer doesn't mean light but Light bringer.
The thing I find interesting is if Lucifer is light, which usually mean knowledge (light) maybe he was trying to tell us something about God?

Lucifer's name didn't change.

Satan is a title, rather than a name--it means "adversary".

Any angel who was cast out of heaven for defying God is technically a "Satan"

For instance the Satan who tempts Jesus in the New Testament is Lucifer, but the Satan in the Garden of Eden was actually Samael.

We have developed the habit of calling Lucifer "Satan" much in the same we call Jehovah or Yahweh "God". The honorific comes to replace the name.

Lucifer was the bright and morning star who fell from grace trying to get power for himself and became Satan. Theres a person out there who should think well and hard on this fact. The person who is now Satan's b------, from following the same pattern. (Only Lucifer never stooped to do others bidding and you my dear have served no one not even your scum society)

Millennialist have this idea that Lucifer is another name for the devil. They, like most, if not all of us, have learned much of what is learned through bible teaching. The teaching of Lucifer referring to the Devil is such erroneous teaching. The king of Babylon back in B.C. was referred to as Lucifer. The Bible say take up this proverb against the KING of Babylon. It did not say against the devil, Satan, or Beelzebub.

This is funny. A few people have smugly cited "The Bible" without citing actual passages. I would suggest that THEY read their Bible and come back with a citation that answers this question. Good luck.

Most of you "Christians" know very little about the origins of your religion. For example, do you know how many times Jesus actually used the word "Hell"? Seems like you say it was an important concept. Why doesn't he really discuss it?

Really his name never really changed we as mankind understand the devil and satan to be negative and being that Lucipher was kicked out of the kingdom he needed a negative name. For lucipher is a name that is positive.

second of all.the idea of "satan" was a way to frighten people into behaving. lucifel did not fall, gods rules did
