The main thing should be the thought behind it and the pocket of the giver. But these days, $50 to $100 for friends and co-workers is common.A relation too would be $50 up depending on the relationship and how much you are spending or not spending to attend the wedding.

Many people will spend about $20-$30 on a wedding gift. This isn't out of being cheap, but what they can afford. That being said, there are going to guests who spend more money, and there will be guests who spend less. I guess it is up to you, how close you are to either the bride or groom, and what your budget will allow.

A good friend of mine swears by this rule: spend no less than what was spent to feed you (and your date) at the reception. She uses that as her minimum amount and adds more depending on how close she is to the couple.

I really think it all depends on how well you and the couple get along. I mean they get sp much stuff they are not going to have time to find out who spent how much. It really is the amount of love and thought that goes into the gift.

If giving cash, I try to cover the cost of my & my guests meal, $125-$150.
If I buy from the registry, I limit to a $150 of less gift.

Anywhere from $25 if you're a casual friend who does not attend to $5,000 and up if you're a parent or grandparent and can afford it.
